I have seen this advertised that it will stick or bond to plastic. I thought I might try some yellow and blue but first I want to know if anybody has tried it and if the stuff is worth a hoot. Can`to find or afford graphics for my bike so spray paint is basically my best option. Got tired of people mistaking my berg for a Suzuki. What do you think?

I painted my Suzuki GSX-R with it. I really like the blue and silver. It's good stuff. Go for it and good luck......post pics when your done.

Hey Bill:

Most enamel spray can paints are either synthetic, acrylic or urethane based. Acrylic and urethane are plastic. Any rattle can paint will not be of the best quality and most are sold with a gimmick or marketing aid. In this case the seller is labeling the paint "plastic paint". There is usually not a whole lot of difference between paint for say metal or plastic . Different primers are used for plastic and primer rarely is addressed with aerosol can spray paint. Getting any paint to adhere to plastic is difficult. Plastic primer is usually a clear adhesion promoter. Shiny dirt bike fenders are made out of polypropylene which is the slickest and hardest to get paint to adhere to. One of the problems with spray can paint is that it is very thin which enables it to come out of the can at low pressure.

If you want to give it a shot I would:

Thoroughly sand the parts with really fine sandpaper, 1000 grit wet would be good.

Wash with a detergent and rinse well.

Dry leaving no water spots.

Blow off the parts with air and lightly wipe with a tack cloth (don't press hard)

Follow the directions on the can regarding spraying.

Most paints are designed to work best at 72 degrees. Temperature variances either way can cause problems. Do not spray in the direct sun.

Build up the film thickness slowly. Allow each coat to "flash off" 5-10 minutes before the next.

Apply light coats only. Remember spray can paints are too thin by design and will run easy.

Don't bother trying to paint the gas tank. Fuel vapor permeation will lift the paint off in no time.

After allowing about 48 hours dry time place in the sun for a few days to bake it.

Don't expect a whole lot in the way of durability but it will "clean up" old plastic.

Hi Wildbill I painted an old KTM front fender cleaned w/ paint thinner looked good nice shiny. After several hundred trail miles and some craches, It did not flake but scratch easy and when starts looking bad
just touch up
Happy trails VIKING

Painting in plastic is most of the times unsucessfull job. As Husabutt said you have to sand all the piece very well with water based sand paper or with something like Scothbrite, then clen everything with a silicone free cleaner, apply a good plastic primer like "Self Hetching Primer" from Berger Paints or other similar (this product is a 2 componente one and is mixed in equal parts, very well mixed). Then look for a good acrylic paint in a can, don't buy spray they are scrap. You have a good brand from Berger also, which is "Standox" for automotive apply, let it dry well sand it again and apply a skin of an acrylic dual component varnish from Standox which is used for car finish and for the metalic colors.

Remember you have to sand very, very well every milimeter of the piece, every corner, every hole.

After all with all that work and money spent in paints it's better you buy new plastics, from Acerbis or other one.

Good advice all around....but have any of you tried "fusion"? spend $10 on 2 cans and see if you like it. If it meets your standards....Great. If not, you only put 10 bucks into it.

Ok my first post has nothing to do with motorcycles. Yes, I have used Fusion paint on the plastic fender skirts on my Jeep and it works great. It's been about a year now and the only problem is where I've dripped gas from the filler hole on the left rear. Even that didn't remove the paint it just streaked it.

Yes that is the kind of spray paint I`am talking about. I found the blue today but nothing else so I will keep looking. That got me thinking about silver. Right now I could park my bike in front of a moss covered rock and nobody would notice, blends in so well. I guess I will have to go check out wally world. Really I`m in no big hurry, if you rush you make big mistakes so I just snail along  . How is... no I will surprise you. Thanks

I decided to be real original and paint it yellow again. Going to do the front and rear fenders and side panels all one color. Hey the thing was yellow to start with. Thought about using blue on the side panels but am going to try yellow first. If that suits me then I`ll be happy until the next time. Going to get started on it tomorrow. Will try to take some pictures. Thanks for the tips and advice. Take care.

Well I got everything painted fenders front and rear, the shrouds and the side covers. I let everything cure for 24 hours before I mounted everything back. Actually I think it looks pretty good. I did take pictures but it might be a while before I can post them or get somebody to do it for me. The color is Sunbeam made by Krylon Fusion. I think it is worth checking out.
