I have a 96' 400e and finally got it running. Of course this opened up all the other things wrong with it. For example the air boot for the carb. Can someone guide me to a good source of new or used parts? Also does anyone know what years and size motors are compatible with my bike?

i would suggest DCR for his knowledge of all the bikes from the past. he has been breaking them. as for new....ify i'm afraid. i can have a go for you but i don't have the deep knowledge base that dave does.

any estart 96, 97, 98 should be direct fit. even a kickstart model should fit the estart frame. 99 motor has different stator/ coil but will work. i was buying parts for my 98 not all that long ago from motoxotica. boss or bikebarn prolly can help you. they have banners at the top.
