Hi guys, newbie here. I have been doing quite some research recently as i am wanting and i mean really wanting to get a fs650 or 550 as a comeback to biking. Its been 6 years (feels like longer) and really want a supermoto, i have owned a ktm 640sm in the past but now thats not really a proper hardcore supermoto is it and these bergs just really get me excited. Only issue is the fact that they are getting on a bit and the ones iv seen are 02 models. Now i know these bikes can need a lot of work internally which does not bother me as such i am a mechanic by trade but its the parts availability thats getting me worried. I dont want to buy the bike and find it needs stripping down and then find that i cannot get the parts it needs and have wasted my money. Is the parts really getting that scarce yet? Sorry for the long winded post but would appreciate your feedback.

Most parts are still available. Valves and springs are same as KTM rfs, motors. 550 con rods are hard to find. 650 consumables are readily available. I admit, I haven't ordered any parts for last 6 months, but I haven't heard of any new shortages. Perhaps others will chime in

I think it is now fair to say it isn't true anymore.

I - by hook or by crook - have had starter freewheel gears, crank oil feed nipples made recently and soon i'll have 650 rods ready.

Roach, the only part i don't have is the 550 rod. I have the 501 rod which is identical but the application isn't so i won't sanction it for use in a 550.

but the seat pans are stopped, rad shrouds, decals, the above from the engine are stopped. all the up to 04 only stuff has just about gone now.

BTW, you shouldn't really put 04-08 valves in an earlier engine Goose. I didn it when there was nothing else but it isn't satisfactory to see the tappet adjustment screw going down and through the rocker arm to achieve it!

the answer is a longer stemmed valve like the original and that is what I have made. AND they are one piece. AND they are gas-flow tested and improved!

So Roach, we can keep them going but there are holes and cracks appearing!
