This is the story;
Preparing my bike (03 501FE) for the next Sahara adventure the engine got a major overhaul after 250 hr’s and about 10000 km’s. So the piston, big end, balance shaft and inlet valves needed to be renewed (dealer work…). I installed new tires, chain and sprockets and greased all bearings. The last few things needed to be installed were road book, aux fuel tank and GPS. After all that it was time for a test run and yes it was a delight to drive! No problems whatsoever. So after 200 km’s I wanted to inspect the new inlet valve’s to see if they needed adjustment. I did the normal procedure, I cleaned the area around the cylinder head and removed the spark plug and the breather hose and inspected the valves which were OK. I always plug the breather hose hole with a paper plug and when I was pulling this plug out it ripped and a small piece of paper (1 x 2 cm’s) fell into the area around the camshaft chain and disappeared. Of course this happens when you don’t have the time to do any repairs because the bike needs to get shipped the next day. I searched for the piece of paper with a dentist mirror and all kind of stuff but no sign of it. The only thing I could do was to start the engine and go for a drive, drain the oil and inspect the filters. I did this 4 times and still no sign of paper in the oil or oil filters. So I decided to ship the bike to the Sahara.
What do you guys reckon, will that piece of paper come back to bite me? Can it block an oil passage? BTW I soaked a same piece of paper in oil to see what would happen and it seems to be quality paper, it stayed in one piece…
