Hi guys, and girls, am want to paint my spokes white as they get rusty all the time, whats the proceedure, special paint? will it need to be sanded?
Thanks for any input.:)

The Spoke Coats are about $80 to do front and rear wheels. Surely one could get some plastidip (or similar product) and do the spokes themselves for the $20 mark.

I would assume it would be easiest to pull the wheels off the bike and tape off the hub and rim with painters tape. Also, clean the spokes thoroughly before painting. Spokes shouldn't need to be sanded, but I suppose "roughing" them up cannot hurt (it should help the paint to stick more).

DUDE, do not PAINT your spokes!! Think about it, rust is the metal breaking down! Spokes are a pretty important part of your bike. Don't risk it! New spokes. You can usually pick them up on eBay, or a Google search and you'll be done. Don't risk it! Spokes, no jokes! scrubdesignz.com

Ive got some sexy spoke covers on my Berg...

Your spokes will be a rusty mess when you pull off those coats. I've seen it happen to a number of people. Perhaps "painting the spokes with grease prior to installing the coats would help.

Probably a rusty mess before they went on. I will check though, and perhaps grease em up.

Not my handy work, was all like it when I bought it.....wouldnt recommend doing, ok when its first done, but doesnt look fresh for long.

If you want to paint your spokes, then you would want the easiest way. Otherwise replace them with stainless ones.

So take the wheels off and clean the spokes with steel wool or a scourer pad. Any surface rust that you can't remove, even the tiniest pits you will need to treat with a rust convertor. I would use a good quality urethane enamel (preferably with a rust inhibitor) and brush it on.(Unless you want to mask everything up)
Keep in mind if you pressure wash your bike, it could get ugly. I de-chromed my Harley by sanding the chrome and painting it with satin black and gloss black urethane enamel in a pressure can. It has held up well for a couple of years now.

Companies like POR15 have a lot of good products, but you could end up spending more than a set of new spokes, unless you have other uses for it.

What about an anticorrosive coating like ACF-50?

Either instead of or under covers.

ACF-50 is supposedly more than just water-dispersant oil, as I understand the marketing material it has some kind of electrolytic/metallurgical anti-corrosion property. Trying to read up on it to try to find out but I'm of the opinion that it works. Winter riders in Norway / UK seem to really like it - as in riding on salted pavement winter riding.

only real reason for painting or covering spokes is for bling, if there that bad that they need coating with ACF and the like, i would seriously consider relacing or a replacement wheel!! the inside of the rim will corrode alot quicker that the spokes, if youve rusty spokes then pull the rim rubber or tape off and check the rim where the spokes go in.
