hi guys i have a fe 550e 2005 and i have an overheating problem, i dont have any water going into the oil, my radiator hasnt got any blockages, and im using good coolant. when i first bought the bike i replaced the oil and water seals for the water pump cos it was leaking out the hole near the impellar, ive riden for about 25 hours maximum and on my last ride i noticed oil leaking out of it again. i was wondering if anyone has any ideas for me with what could be causing the overheating and could the seals blowing out twice be a sign of something else wrong with the water pump?

ive been told to try thermo fans, would they fix the problem and will they fit straight onto my bike?

1. You need an 06 tank to run a fan. 06' tank also has better air flow. I have one on my 05', but no fan.
2. What is your coolant/water ratio? I use 30% coolant 70% distilled water.
3. Is your bike running lean? Lean running will make it run hot.
4. What kind of riding makes it overheat, and does it boil over? Mine gets hot but has never boiled over.
5. Have you looked at your thermostat? It could be corroded and restricting the flow. Mine had crap growing on it.
6. Did you use the little plastic tool to keep the seal from getting nicked when you installed it?
7. How many hours on your bike?
8. Welcome to the site.

and put a small over flow bottle on the bike as well, so when it does spew out it will suck back in?

thanks mate yea its an awsome site!

im not sure of the ratio, i bought the coolant pre mixed from a shop,
should i buy it and mix it myself?

my bike was running lean but we cleaned the carby and adjusted the jet on the bottom of the carby and it seemed to run a whole lot better, do u no were the screw on the bottom of the carby should be?

my bike only has 1600 kms on it not sure about the hours

i put my thermostat in boiling water and it very very slwoly opened up, i put it in 55 degree water and it didnt open,

i didnt use a platic tool for the seal but i will this time,

have u put a small bit of tubing in the hole near the water pump to stop dirt getting in there?

the type of riding i do were it boils is usualy in slow bit higher revving areas ie goat tracks and long slippery hill climbs, my bike only boils after i turn my bike of it never does whilst its running
