what do you guys think this would do for a 05 fc450? the stock 13 48 seemed to be a little tall in the slow technical and second gear on the big climbs seems to bog out at all the wrong times.

sprocket rocket 13 51

iit sounds like this may be a good thing for the problems your discribing also think of top end loss Good luck!

i would like the 6 speed but ...... i don't mind losing some off the top as i ride more in the woods and not the faster enduros its not very often i get the chance to open it up in forth so i figure with a few opinions i may make the power more use able more of the time ... if that makes sense. thanks gentlemen.

Either way, pm Nizzo, he had an Fc and he'd have good insight on exactly what you'd want to start with, as well as a couple other good ideas for you.

cheers

there's really no need to talk to nizzo or anyone else the answers are here! the great and the good are at UHE gentlemen!!!

13/51 is way too short and first gear coming into a corner? wow! like watching a kid fall off his first bike! should easily be comfortable with 14/51 in all conditions and even on steep slopes.

your carburation is out fella so gerrit sorted. the fuel screw underneath makes the bu=iggest difference so get off your arse and adjust it. then go for better jetting settings and maybe a different needle.

PM me for some jetting advice if you want.

Taff, the reason I mention Nizzo, is that Nizzo lives down teh street from him, and had an FC 450 AND did the same riding...not only about the info, also about the brotherhood.

Its ok, though, its in your nature :D

Chill out guys!!! Can you stop for a bit?
About the topic: I heard that 13 T sprocket very quickly kill your swingarm chain protection. In my berg Fe400, I've got 14/52, so equally gives same ratio than OEM 13/48.And it wanted a bit longer chain.I did it in that way, just to save swingarm protector. The ratio is fine for me, good for tight riding among the trees.

LOL!!!!

ok boys, from thesaurus:
plebeian
common people, folk, folks - people in general (often used in the plural); "they're just country folk"; "folks around here drink moonshine"; "the common people determine the group character and preserve its customs from one generation to the next"

man, if i could only read my writing after i'd be finished i'd be there!!!!

I too ride steep rocky rooty terrain and have run a 51 rear for some time. Sometimes with a 13 front and sometimes with a 14.

I got the bike with a 14 and it needed switching and I wanted to try lower gearing.

The first 13 wore out real quick. The chain slide was also worn but old too so not really an issue for me. I like the 13 cos I can pull 2nd gear alot of the time and this seems to get me more traction.

Then I switched back to a 14 and found I prefered the 13 so now I have a 13.

The 51 rear means I have to silightly mod the chain guide block to drop the rear end below the sprocket rim. I have been running an ironman rear for 100 hrs. Not really much sign of wear yet. 8O

No worries, Kris, us plebs are just hakin a little fun at one another...I'll miss FR3, so I have to get my digs in early.

Now apart from teh hijacking...if you can run a 14 its better, bigger wheels, equal better torque delivery

kawiguy Hey how do you like the FC450 ive got a 05 FC550 which had a 13 fr it would pull my arms out until i ran out of gears .im now at 15--45 for mx and what a diff. a lot less vibration, less shifting now.................Paul

my opinions on gearing are well recorded but might be forgotten.... you need the engine to decel the bike so that you drop into the corners JUST right. if you have 15/51 and turn up at a corner, close thethrottle, change gear and try to throw the bike down you will simply miss the corner and ride over the berm.

if you have 13/51 gearing you will turn up at the corner and the engine braking will be so great that the bike falls on it's side as you enter the berm and infact you ride up the inside of it or fall off!

14/51 is spot on and will make you a better rider which is what its all about.

well i think so, but a bit like jetting, you turn your bike and everyone has gone rich and changed the friggin gearing yet again!!!!!
