Hi guys,

Nothing to do with 'Bergs, but I need some bearings cheap(cost, not quality) and quick and the tool man. wants 50 bucks for the 2 that I need.

Does anyone have an online source where I can cross and purchase a bearing?

I'm tired of paying twice what it's worth simply because it's in their packaging.

thanks,

What size? Some standard sizes come in cheap but usable quality. If you need a size that is not so common, you might only get them from A-brands that charge higher prices.

This may not be of much help to you (but could be of use to UK bods), but I posted to VisorDown in the UK details of a deal for bearings. There is a part locator on the suppliers website which identifies bearings that you may find useful. Anyway, details below:

'I have been beavering away to see if our buying power can be leveraged for the benefit of this list. Now I should explain that I am a Purchasing Manager for a textile and industrial fibre manufacturing company (we make the fibre that is then processed into carbon fibre. No I haven't got any, yet!) so I have been able to persuade one of our key suppliers to offer the same deal as has been offered to the business I work for. The supplier is BSL who distribute power transmission products including the things of interest to us like:
bearings - ball, roller, taper roller, needle roller
bushes - bronze, glacier etc
seals and 'o' rings
chains
sprockets (maybe. These aren't so straight forward. BSL supply industrial whereas Renthal etc are consumer)
belts - 'V', HTD toothed (CCM cam belts anyone)
pulleys - 'V', HTD (CCM again)
adhesives - Loctite etc
oils & greases - full range of Rocol

Now I know that this isn't wheels/tyres/leathers etc because this is an industrial supplier, but it is a start and the savings are very significant. Take this example:
gearbox output shaft roller bearing for my VOR:
this is a SKF NU303ECP
TMUK (importer) price is £31.90+VAT
BSL price is £10.25+VAT
That's more than a two thirds saving and is fairly typical! To replace all the bearings, seals, 'o' rings and bushes on my VOR cost me £80+VAT and would have cost more than £200+VAT with the importer.

Getting this stuff is simplicity itself. Just quote the list account number (122492 - which is a cash or credit/debit card holding account) and all the discount terms will be applied to anything you buy. Pay for your parts with cash or credit/debit card. You can do this at a branch, over the phone or via their website www.bsl.co.uk . There are branches at most major towns and cities; look in your yellow pages or on the website.

Most of the stuff you need has a manufacturer's part number on it and in the case of bearings I mean SKF, RHP, NSK, Timken etc, not a Berg, VOR, KTM, Honda etc. If you can't find it because it's too tattered, take the sample to a BSL trade counter or use the part locater on the website which uses the dimensions of the part to identify it.

I even have a noddy guide to ordering this stuff from the BSL website which even when zipped is too large at 630Kb to post here. If anybody wants it, PM me and I'll email it to you.'

cheers

Keith

I buy all of my bearings from KAMAN. I usually use their local depot in the 'City of Industry' here in So. California, but I have also used their on line service. I get high quality bearings at 1/3 to 1/2 the price charged by the motorcycle dealers. My Berg bearings are all from KAMAN with the exception of the connecting rod bearing.

You don't want to use the online service for a single small bearing because the shipping cost will be greater than the cost of the bearing.

Edit: Oops, I forgot, the cam follower bearings are KTM; just like the 2003 and 2004 Bergs are.

i too got all my bearings from KAMAN. i think I got just about every bearing in the berg for less than $40

What are the IbI #? post them and I'll see what I can do. The IBI # are on the sides of the races or the grease seals.

RE: bearings(non-Husaberg)

Hi everyone.

Thanks to all for the replies. I went ahead an paid too much for them, as I needed them post-haste as it's for a bandsaw on the job.

Marlin, as I come into a need for them more often than you'd imagine, I'll let you know as soon as another takes a crap. Thanks very much for the offer.

thanks,

Joe/Dave,
You guys happen to have the manufacturer and part #'s of the bearings you used? Doing a search for cam bearings from SKF (6201 used to search for 6201LLB/C3) is not turning up numbers that seem to correspond. Also the web site doesn't seem to list prices, saying "Not available", when searching for an equivelent NSK 6201 vv c3.

thanks.

I used Fafnir 201PP for the cam bearings. They are double sealed. I popped the seals and lubricated them with a high temp silicone grease used on disk brake guide pins. You can leave the seals off if you want .
