Newbie to Berg land I had a 3 lap 4.5 mile harescramble with a 93 FE this past weekend.

It has a great power and shifts well. The Issues are stalls alot.

Carb Rebuilt and cleaned adusted so it doesnt back fire.

Tackling the Coil and stator next.

I have a 1995 501 and found it stalled out often in the tight stuff as well.
I have a larger rear sprocket but rarely use first gear because it spins the tire too easily resulting in little traction.
I have several other bikes in my garage (early 1980's Husqvarna 430, 500 2 stroke and 500 four stroke etc.)that have much more flywheel mass and are very difficult to stall.
I found I had to adapt my riding and slip the clutch if I think it might stall, and also on-off with the throttle in the tight stuff.
I agree with the higher idle speed, I have mine probably around 2500-3000 rpm.
I am using an electrex stator which works great after going through several stock stators.
If your stock stator is failing it will stall much more often as the crankcases get hot.
