sorry if i am pulling skeletons out of the closet.its been several years since i have had the ole girl out. i finally have a little time and money and i want to ride my 02 fe 650. i need to get my stator rewound and i did manage to find some info on that. (sparks). however i am looking for info on parts to update my topend and bottom end. what needs to be done to make this thing more reliable. where can i obtain these parts. any suggestions? please.

dear oh dear! yes you're right it is a much dragged out subject and one you should really have spent a teeny weeny bit of time researching yourself. you could have made a list of what you think you need for us to look over?

thing is, we've been here all this time while you peed about and your fun. do i deserve to be here in 5 years time or finish because i'm fed up with the same old questions? so you see. i view your question as potentially making my and my mates time hire tiresome - the result of which is that i stop or they do.

latest camchain from '07/08
latest tensioner blade with the pivot screw
buy completely new and updated rocker arms - latest
rocker pins to suit
dual valve spring mod
softer cam from '04 plus
latest de comp bob w/ spring

sparks SEM ignition
selector fork strengthened from '03
complete '03 clutch assembly

if your 200 hours are up then you can go for a better piston from the 470.
replace mains as a necassary precaution - stick to ball-race

we're not sure yet but the '08 has a new bearing and seal system for the water pump that may retro.

check the squish as you disassemble and assess the potential for a longer rod therefore allowing higher compression. in other words if you have a 3mm gap twixt piston and head then you could do with a 1mm longer rod. check the rod length and go from there.

if sparks SEM comes back with your original plastic tubing - -replace for better water sealing.

check inlets for tuliping

convert to keihin FCR

the list is endless

thanks taffy. i did search for about two hours and didn't find what i was looking for. i knew you guys would know this like the back of your hand. i have done the keihin flat slide conversion. these parts are directly interchangeable? i know they changed the 650 a bit. i really do appreciate all of ya'lls infinte wisdom. i have been out of the loop for a while. thank you very much for all and any help you can give. i don't mean to be a bother. i really love this motorcycle. i refused to sell it in times of need, because it rips, well when its running it rips. THANK YOU again for not flaming me for opening another can of worms.

RE: tanks!
