I have got oil blowing out of the engine breather. The engine has not been overfilled so I am a bit confused. Any ideas

Have you checked the reed valve at the bottom of the crank case just behing the clutch basket to make sure nothing is stuck behind it?

i had a word with leon earlier today, he has got the hang of starting it and the new YTZ7S battery has helped 100%. the old battery was dead which makes me think that despite the fact that my bike (and yours and his etc etc) will run without the battery at all: it seems that whilst it's there, the battery is HINDERING and not even a neutral component!

bundy?

anyway, leon has the bike staring first time when hot but cold is a *****. when i left the bike with him i said that i felt it needed a #50 (instead of the #45 he has) starter/choke jet.

we shall see but i'm about 95% certain that that larger choke jet will see the bike start first time.

regarding the oil, he said it wasn't really even a mist just something less than that. so i think what he thought was bad on the phone to DCR was actually "the norm" and he'll be ok. when i test rode thee bike there was never any smoke. the oil running down the engine transpires to be a split rubber breather to the frame.

small potatoes!

This holds the record on supermoto visordown for most posts/clicks until i deleted it  I now wish I hadn't done that

Ah yes, I recall that monstrosity. Clearly that expert engine builder had revisited the classic British bike concerns of the 60s of leaking vertical crankcase seals
