Can anyone help
I have a 2003 FS650e. How far up does the oil need to be in the oil level window? The manual diagram says just visible, is this correct?
I feel more comfortable when i can see the level!!!

Cheers
Ian

PS and Husa owners in the Bristol/Bath area ??

From what I have gathered, you want to run the oil on a SuperMoto (FS)bike at the bottom of the window. They tend to blow oil out the breather at high rpms if they are filled much beyond that. On the FE and FC machines I like to run from the middle to top of the glass.

I put a full 1.050 liter in mine....top of the window....that oddly shaped breather on the 03's actually seem to work.... I have not blown any oil yet....but Husabut's got a point, says the same in the manual.... just change the oil all the time and those bikes will run like new all the time.,.... :D

Heres something for you guys, its actualy my dads question because it's his 04 450 and I'm going off what he emailed me. He changed the oil added 1 L it did not show on the window so he added 60 ml and still nothing on the window but when started it circulates past the window. The good book said that you should "lay the bike on its side and fill the oil filter compartment half way" Then add 1l. I doubt he did that and I think that may be why it shows low. What do you guys think?

1 litre will bring the oil to the bottom of the window and showing maybe 5mm when STOOD ON IT'S WHEELS. we all have our bikes at different angles on the paddock stands and some will have the rear wheel touching the floor and others the front.

if you over fill the bike with oil you are forgetting that the clutch will be running in it - especially on lefts so it pays to keep the level where they say. otherwise under hard conditions iclutch slip may occur. mind you i've never heard of that on the huseys!

the left cover has a read valve to control the blow into this cover. oil can therefore be pushed up and away from the 'port hole' creating the impression of more oil.

Taffy

I remember that Dale said that he can put 1,25 liter of oil in the engine without negative effects. Under racing conditions even up to 1,4 liters ?

From the former GP MX3 team: they used to fill with 600cc as it makes the engine run "easier". Since I have to pay for my own stuff I fill with 950cc after every oilchange and have the level just at the bottom of the window. This level is described in the book also, at least in my 02.

since my last post I have noticed oil running out of the head bearing area onto the back of my front fender.....appears to be coming from my breather......I am riding on a TT track and reving higher than I normally do on a super moto track.....so I guess I am putting too much oil in her....interestingly enough the oil level gets to the lower half of the window and stops blowing by onto the fender.....just another reason to follow the good book.....

Xmen, I did come across that post while looking into my question and it was mentioned that 1.4 was being used and that when 1.5 and over was used it would start spiting out at high speeds. I don't remember the post exactly but you are correct.
