Hello everyone. My '05 450fe has oil leaking out of the oilfilter cover. Could I have damaged a O-ring when putting it back or is there something else I did incorectly that I'm not aware of? Has anyone else had this happen to them?

Did you use a screwdriver to pry it out?
No I screwed a threaded rod into the center and wiggled it gently to remove it.

I would guess that it's a damaged o-ring then. Froggy's right that improper removal is a popular cause of this, but if you(nor anyone else) did this, then I would swap out the o-ring and see if that solves your problem.

thanks,

I found the problem. The outside O-ring had a small nick in it. I really cannot tell you how it happened. Peplaced the o-ring and the problem is solved. Thanks everyone.

O-Ring was probably pinched and a nick came off when you pushed the cover in. It can also happen with the starter motor.

you should undo the ignition wiring loom next time and not force the oil filter/housing etc past it. takes a bit longer but you won't make that mistake again.

Cracked Oil Filter Cover

I had the same type of leak so I pulled the oil filter and checked the o-rings. Under close inspection I could not find any nicks or cuts. I did find a crack in one of the bolt hole loops on the cover. Put a washer on the bolt for that bolt hole, put it back together, and no more leak.

So now I need to find a oil filter cover for 2002 Husaberg (part #220 050-01). If you have one or can make a recommendation on how to weld it please let me know. There is very little metal to work with. I know a jeweler with a laser welder who can do titanium so maybe he can do it(?).s
