Anyone give me a heads up on why I have oil leaking from the water pump all down the casing. Looks like its comming from the small hole on the pump. This is my third ride on it and I only noticed it today. Its a FE 550 07 model. Got about 200 kays on it now.

All engines have there own quirks the leaking weep hole is the Husabergs.
The seal comes complete with the bearing not very effective.
I've just rebiult my engine with all new bearings and seals and mine started weeping more or less straight away.
I think Orangeberg did some sort of mod but not sure what this comprised of.

Regards

Sparks.

use the search feature and type in ' weephole ' and then click on search , then you will understand or ' be in the know ' cobbah .

For info, my 20hr FS650e started doing it after an oil change - I dropped the oil level to the bottom of the sight glass, from the previous mid-height and after a few hours the problem stopped.

I have no idea if it was actually oil level related but it hasn't come back with my new 'low' oil levels and I have another 40hrs on it since it left a plate sized puddle under my bike.

Being the pessimist I am I have a complete set of factory seals/bearings and Orangebergs upgrade, for when it actually lets go for real....

Cheers

My 07 FE650 weeped slightly for the first 500km then stopped and never restarted

RE: Re: Oil leak from water pump?

Are you sure it is oil and not coolant, that often has an oily consistence? If oil really leaked from there, then it would be mixed with coolant, and on the floor you could tell it is oil and coolant, as they don't really mix (like in a home made vinaigrette) and you'd see bubbles of oil floating in the coolant. Also you'd probably have something that looks like Bailey in your inspection window or in the radiator.

You might have a leaky gasket (you can add sealant, like Wurth, for instance), or have over torqued the bolts, which are rather easy to over torque. If it is the case, they don't hold firmly enough and coolant will come out, because Berg engines get really hot really fast and it's a bit like a pressure cooker, so if it ain't tight and sealed properly, it will leak. You'd have to fix the thread.

Same thing happened to my '07 FE550. Contact Orangeberg (UHE member) - he has developed a seal kit to cure this common problem. It fixed mine.
PM me if you want his phone number.

Will this seal kit be covered by warranty. I mean as far a I see it it's a design flaw.

It wasn't in my case - I just coughed up the $ so I didn't have to spend $50 in fuel each time taking my bike to the dealer for a new seal every second week. I agree that it should be covered - hit em up for it definitely. If you don't want to spend the $ then try your luck with the standard seal. Labour should definitely be covered which ever way you go. Don't quote me but I think the seal kit fix was around $70
Good Luck

My 450 '06 was leaking coolant after one time I overheated the engine, replaced the sealings twice and then the coolant leaking stopped, but an oil leaking took over. After two rides, the oil leaking has gone.

I always apply a bit of Wurth sealant on the waterpump seal, both sides. It does not hurt anyone. Even the Kick start seal gets a little skim of it.

I had one leak once and experienced the Bailey effect (both fluids contaminated). New seal and Wurth on top, no issue. Wurth works magic. You can also add some on top of the gaskets (or one side only, which makes the gasket reusable about 3 times).

Got my bike back from the dealer and they replaced the seal and gave it an oil change all under warranty. They also did it with short notice. Really happy with the service, Dirt Bike Factory in Wollongong. They have suggested that I shouldn't have to put the mod kit on it. Time will tell. If it goes again I will be onto the mod kit that has been discussed.
