I have a slight oil leak where the head joins the engine case and was wondering if I needed to take the valve cover off to get to 2 of the 4(?) bolts.
I was only going to check for tightness as I'm assuming nothing else would be wrong. (3500km)

Thanks

You have to remove the entire rocker box cover to get to the other two head bolts. You really need to use a good torque wrench in this instance. The factory method is: In a criss-cross pattern, torque all 4 bolts to 40 Nm. Then, to 50 Nm. Be careful not to over tighten and tighten them all the same, or it can leak worse.

The rocker box cover has to be re-sealed with some type of sealant, as there is no gasket. I use Loctite #515 anerobic gasket maker, but the Threebond type of sealant used to seal metal to metal surfaces on motorcycles works fine too.

Don't forget a good torque wrench!

This is really obvious - but if you remove the rocker cover and put it back on again you will need to check and possibly adjust the tappets. Just a reminder in case.

I wasn't sure so I did just incase, all was good.
Thanks for the tip.

The bolts were tight so I just put a bead of 515 and it didn't leak at al after todays ride of 100k.
