Hi all,

Has any of you lot experienced the oil filter cover leaking, I replaced the two O rings which did seem to cure it for a while, but now it's back. It's not bad just annoying.
I just wedge a piece of tissue between the cover and the clutch cylinder housing to soak up the oil, it also works as a gage to how much is leaking out.
Any ideas to why it should be doing this.

Regards

Sparks.

The new O rings should have taken care of it Sparks.

When you fit the cover after cleaning the filter, do you put a dab of grease on the O rings or put some oil on them? If you don't you can damage them.

I have had a problem with this in the past, but, new O rings have always cured it.

I had this problem earlier this year, so I fitted new O rings, it cured the problem for a while but now it has returned.
Yes I grease both O rings on the housing before fitment.

I had the same issue w/ mine and new o-rings did the trick. It's possible that you damaged the o-ring(s) again, while reinstalling the cover.

Even with oil/grease applied to the orings, it is easy for the inner oring to get nicked as it crosses over the holes in the case. The small holes are not well deburred from the factory and the oring wants to expand into them as it passes. If you have the engine apart, it is easy to chamfer the holes without fear of debris getting into the passageways. This will help but it is fixing the solution instead of the problem.

The best method is to have a recessed bore just where the small holes are located. The orings can be the same size since the inner one simply squeezes down again normally while going into filter cavity.

The cover sealing is a design fault, another way it could be done is for the the cavity to have a stepped bore so the oring doesn't cross a hole. The cover would also be stepped with the orings different in size by one or two millimeters.

i fixed my leak by ... a tiny amount of three bond on the sealing face of the oil filter cover .

Both the old O rings and the news ones are in perfect condition, no splits or shamfers.
I'll try a bit of Wurth sealant around the flange cover and see how that goes.

I didn't know if this was a known problem with the Berg or mine is just a one off. Sounds like others have had problems as well.
Thanks to all for the input.

Sparks.
