I recently obtained a 1999 FS 600 from a dear friend that is not able to ride much anymore due to heart problems. When he gave me this bike it only had 25 original miles and looked like it just rolled off the show room floor. A few weeks ago, the carb came loose from the rubber manifold and the bike shut dwn. After a few minutes of repair it was back running. The carb then came off a second time and this time after fixing it, it would not start back up. I have cleaned the carb thoroughly and still it wont start. Any ideas or suggestions would be great. Thanks

Go to the down loads section on the left side of the page. Find the "Hard start Guide". Download the guide and read through it. Perhaps then you will have some direction.

The older bikes had problems with back firing through the carbs, usually due to jetting issues. This will blow the carb off the boot sometimes. This is a problem you will want to remedy. If the bike has an electric start it can cause the starter clutch to grenade and cause catastropic damage.

very real chance the rubber has drastically deteriorated. i suggest you buy another inlet rubber.

250 244-01 is the part number.

secondly, there maybe an oil or petrol substance there that is making the carb slip out and the rubber to swell up.

bend the rubber in a concave direction and look for splits, i suggest the surface MUST be cracking or SPLIT!!!!!!!!!!!!

finally, you have to get the clip right on the outside edge of the rubber - over it even otherwise the clip squeezes the rubber off the carb. this is the most probable cause. human error.
