Hi guys, first time here. Had my 2002 FS650e for a month or so now, and took it to a track day at Lydden Hill today. All going fine, upsetting the sports bike boys, then it just suddenly cut out. No warning, no coughing and spluttering, nothing, just a dead stop. Wouldn't restart, wouldn't bump. Took the tank off back in the paddock and checked everything, no electrical connections apart or missing, but took the plug out and there's no spark. Tried another plug but still no spark. It's not fuel, in case you were wondering, plenty of fuel, but as I say, no spark.

Is this a common problem? Any pointers to what it might be (and how much!).

Thanks.

PS - meant to add, I've checked the 10A fuse and all the battery/earth connections too.

Hi Cappo,

Go to the 'Downloads' menu under Resources, and download the 'Hard start Manual'

Its most likely a failure of your ignition stator coil charge circuit.

Regards,

Joe

Thanks Joe, just went and got that.

Looking like it could be the stator, the only good thing is that the importer over here in the UK will sell me one sale-or-return, i.e. I can fit it and if that doesn't cure, then I can return it.

Still costs well over 200GBP tho 8O

No spark?
Probably bad stator! With a multimeter test the red with the black and the green with the black wires, and se if the measurements are equal to the ones shown in the manual. If don't you most probably have a damage stator.

If you need it repaired I know a guy who did. I have mine repaired and the bike now works fine.

:) :)

cappo

the wiring on the '02 was about as bad as it gets i'm afraid!

Taffy, the guy at Dave Clarke's virtually said as much! But he did offer sale or return (pre-paid) on a replacement stator for £200+VAT. Can't believe the coil is almost the same price though!
