Went out for a bit of green laning yesterday,bike going well apart from backfiring on overrun and not wanting to idle.never had the problem before.I have stripped the carb down to check for obvious blockages, ie all jets etc.Bike will not now start.I found nothing in the way of dirt in the carb,I have a good spark,fuel in the bowl,compression but no matter what I do never a wet plug.It seems the fuel is not being pulled through to the combustion chamber.I have tried pouring petrol direct into the plug hole,carb intake, but still nothing.All I seem to get is a "slight" start, half a second then nothing.I own an FE400E,2003,110 hours,new stator,starter,battery,plug,lead,cap,well maintained.Apart from the backfiring on overrun and not wanting to idle the bike performed as it always has,well,any ideas...

I think i read about your problems with this a while ago, did you check the intake boot for cracks or sealing on the intake or carb, air will allways take the path of least resitance.
have you checked the overflow / vent tubes from the carb also, these can effect fuel delivery I think when they are blocked.

Hi! Anyone know whats up with my brand new (2002 that is..) 650, as the clues above is noted, still, my startermotor dont wanna start the engine..? It cranks, but not fast enough. Any known problems with these, or am i doing it wrong? Ill try the tips above, but so far i have yet to be able to start it from cold on the kick...

btw, the choke? Is it simply on/off, or does the turning on the choke knob do anything other than locking it in 'on' position?
