My 05 FE550 clutch makes a sort of dragging noise occasionally when first letting the clutch out from a stationary position. This mostly happens when parked on a grippy surface like concrete or bitumen where there would be no wheel slip. I've been told by the dealer that this is normal for 04 & 05 models to do this due to the type of oil or clutch plates. Does anyone else suffer this noise and what is the cure?

Mark,
This noise is normal, more so on some bikes than others. It has to do with the amount of oil on the clutch plates(lack of).
A couple of cures I have heard of are laying the bike on its side (clutch cover down) with the clutch lever pulled over night. The other being to shot peen the steel plates to give just enough inperfection for the oil to stick to them.

Cluch?

Take out the plates wip them off and look see anything????

If you do take them out and inspect them, make sure you soak them in oil before reinstalling.

I'll try the leaning of the bike first - good idea. I didn't want to pull the clutch plates out if it was normal for the bike to make the noise - and most likely I didn't know what to look for.

Cheers

Mine does it very occasionally too, esp when hot. It happens with the KTMs quite a bit by the sounds of it and have never read of any failures because of it.
