when i start my bike from cold (550 fc) their is a whining noise from the gearbox side side of the engine which seems to quieten as the bike warms up? is this just the normal running noise of these engines?
thanks mark.

Hi,

that´s normal.
These sounds are made by your clutch plates package.
The steel plates are a bit scratchy and there are some grooves on them,
I would say. The cold oil is a bit sticky or better called adhesive.
The warm engine doesn´t produce sound like these, does it?

greetings

Monitor the engine for ferrous metals in the oil. I strain my oil every time I change it. "I use an auto paint cone filterâ€Â

yeah my friends say they can hear a whirring noise when they are beside me but i dont worry about it i dont bother it it doesnt bother me dont fix things that arnt broken

cheers doug

Hi Jacko,
The majority of whine and / or clatter you describe is a result of the balance drive assembly. Said drive is a series of straight cut gears which make a tremendous racket. Upon proper removal of the balance assembly the engine is a minimum of 60% quieter. In the meantime consider it as normal and enjoy your ride.

Hope this helps.
Kind Regards,
Dale
