hi all, I'm hoping someone can help or point me in the right direction,.
I have a '01 fe650e that was running great until the other day it just died so I pulled the plug & checked it for spark & nothing so I replaced the plug & still no spark .. I'm not very familiar with motorcycle electrical but what over done so far is checked the plug, looked over the wiring &all connections.
so that's about it, if anyone can help me out here it would be greatly appreciated.

The SEM ignitions of that era are notariously unreliable - especially if water has gotten into the stator area. I had to replace the ignition on the '02 FE650 I used to own and purchased a new OEM from Offroad Boss in Portland, OR. There are couple of places to get re-wound ignitons that can be found on this site. It sounds to me like the ignition has died and they do sometimes die suddenly. However, before spending any money, check the igniton ground. If the ground has come loose you will have no spark - even with a new ignition. If I remember right, the ignition is grounded to the frame under the tank behind the coil.

thank you for the response.
after reading what you said & other threads on here that looks to be my problem , ill check all the wiring & grounds again but I'm sure the sem is the annoyance here.
thanks again for your input

Hi
also check the stator values with a multimeter, specialy the RED/BLACK, the correct ones are on the owners docs.

OK, I don't know if I'm doing it right but the red wire is showing 003 & the green wire is showing 000 on the meter .. if I'm doing it right I'm guessing the stator is bad, am I right?

Sounds like you have possibly got your meter set on the wrong scale, set it to 20K, then the 200 scale to measure Black to Green.

Sparks.

Hi

Sparks is right if your meter is not automatic you have to take care of the scale. Also if you are not used with this gizmo, you put the red stick on the red wire and the black stick on the black wire and should get 3000 Ohm +/- 10%. You put the red stick on the green and the black stick on the black wire and should get 163 Ohm +/- 10%. Finaly for the charging system you put the red stick on the yellow wire and the black stick on the blue wire and should get <1,0 Ohm (do it for both, once at a time).
I think its clear now.

buy an electrex stator! It works very good. No problemo 8)

There an old English saying, how long is a piece of string.

They have also been accused of causing cdi problems.

SPARKS- ii read your the man to go to for this repair ,i sent you a message through your website ..hope you get back to me soon .
thanks

OK, so after following sparks directions using the multimeter this is what readings I get, set on 20k I get 2.89 for the red & set @ 200 I'm getting 167.3 for green... bad?

These readings are good, if all connections are good and the black earth wire from the cdi is good, then I suspect the problem could be with the cdi.
Disconnect the fill switch wire just in case there is a problem with the kill switch.

the good old game of cat & mouse ,Ive looked over the wiring a dozen times & all looks good but ill check again ..its looking to be the CDI .
i really appreciate all your help Sparks & everyone else too.

well if the stator wasn't bad before it is now, I plugged everything back in which I thought was the same way as it was & the stator started smoking ... I don't know what the hell I did wrong but now I'm screwed now I have a bad stator & probably a bad CDI.
sparks, I'm going to need your services .. I will email you through your website again but if you can please pm me on here.
thanks
