My FE390 of 2011 doesn't want to start in 1st gear anymore, but it always could. It also has become harder to find neutral.

Blead the clutch with new fluid Magura blood. There is a lot of drag when you try to push it with the engine off in 1st and clutched and a big clack when put in first gear from neutral.

The oil is brand new. Switched it from Motorex full synthetic to some Putoline esther 10W50 with nano tech. Even that didn't help. Perhaps the clutch pack is worn out?

Who would have some good advice?

My 2010 390 is pretty much the same and have heard it is typical on these. Some have suggested different oils can make it better or worse. if you do a search you well probably find some other threads on it.

No solution for you but at least you know your not on your own!

:)

I also find neutral difficult to find sometimes on my '10 570 gearbox. I think it's just how they are. These bikes don't have the positive neutral gear selector found on many road bikes. can't say the clunk into 1st is that bad except when the engine isn't fully warmed up. As for starting in 1st gear with the clutch pulled in, sometimes it will, sometimes it won't. The motor spins over noticeably slower in this situation due to clutch drag which must be the cause.

im not sure if you run another style clutch or you have removed the original and replaced it recently but try loosening the 24mm nut that holds the inner clutch hub, apply less tension and just nip it up use the tab washer for what its meant to do just hold the nut in place and maybe some loctite to be sure.
Overtensioning on this nut causes the clutch to bind making it creep in 1st, hard to find neutral and hard to start on the E start.
Try it its easy to perform with the access via the outer cover.

Fergus had a lot of trouble recently and it turned out the single broad needle roller the basket runs on was destroying the shoulder? nobody knows why it started but the shoulder was ground away by over 2mm.

new bearing and shoulder and he's away again but as to what caused it and is it a one-off? no idea?

this is where owner's web sites help! :D :D
