I just read the 450 shootout article in Dirt Rider and.... no supprise..
Husaberg 450 took it with ease.. It sets the new standard for future dirt bikes.

Awesome!!!

Shootout bikes in the article: (in no particular order) Ok, I'll put them in my order..
Husaberg
KTM
Husky
Honda
Kawasaki
Yamaha
BMW

Sorta makes you wonder what the other nobs are going to do next year to keep up with the Berg. Could be the winner for a few years yet. Go the almighty HUSABERG

TBM magazine in the UK did a mini shout out between the Berg 450 and the Beemer, would you believe the Berg kicked *** all over.
Engine, suspension, handling etc. etc, the only thing they could pull the berg on was a lack of fuel warning light!!! The BMW then ran out of fuel despite having one
The summary said the BMW was pretty much like any other 450 fourstroke,
the Berg handled more like a two stroke than any other 4T they had ridden.

Dirt Rider didn't like the BMW at all. I think it said the suspension was the worst they have ridden ever. Something like it was good for the small stuff then it would quickly get hard and then just bottom? I guess the motor was good. It just seams to me that the BMW should have waited until it had a really really solid performer before releasing it. It would take some really creative proven Engineering to get me to shift from any make, to a BMW dirt bike. I'll take a BMW road bike any day however.. I guess I can't get my head around a BWM dirt bike. It's just wierd!! What's next.. a Harley motocrosser. Yea I'll rush right out and pick one of those up. NOT!

Can anyone scan/post these articles maybe?
I'm really interested :)
No, I can't do that when I get home. So don't expect any e-mails containing the articles tonight ok It just wouldn't be right. :D

Yes,

Please do not scan and post any copy righted material, the publishers get a little testy about that sort of thing.

ADB were quoted in one of their shootout's saying that you" had to remove the tank on a berg to get to the airfilter" so shows you how much attention they pay to the bergs. When you read the mag, count how many pages have a Honda or Yamaha ad on them & how much is Husaberg advert. He who pays wins, unfortunately.

Harley Davidson have made a motocross bike in the past and BMW have been messing with dirt bikes for a while. The BMW seems to have some good ideas like the chain on the swinging arm privot position to ensure constant tension.... bike seems very big though. As far as I could see the ADB test has the KTM winning. Does not seem right does it?

I will wait and see what American Dirt Bike says as they .... at least in the past...have done thorough tests. They set the bikes up, jet them if this is not done by the supplier and they work them to find the pros and cons. It was American Dirt Bike that found the flaws in their tests of the earlier Bergs. They found the ealier ignition problems with the SEM ignition during their tests etc etc. Their testing quality has seemed to wane in recent years though. I think they upset Berg in the distant past when they claimed the Berg was Soviet technology, but made up when the editor rode a berg in the 1998 ISDE and I don't think had any problems except loosing a gear change leaver that was not tightened. Apparently he would have been fixed up earlier but was handed an adjustable spanner when he asked for a shifter....true.

I'd like to see what ADB has to say as well. I found the website and it looks like they are running the same bike tests as Dirt Rider in the US this month. I wonder if they are connected in some way?
I see they are "teaming" the bikes together instead af individual shootouts. That's an interesting twist. Do you have team events?

Adjustable spanner---Are those what we call in the US "vice grips"?? I could see that..Hell, I think I've done that :O
John

ha ah, no I don't think so.. vice grips I think are those grips that lock...often found in enduro bum bags (fanny packs, tool bags). They grip and can lock. An adjustable spanner is one that the jaws open to different spanner sizes when a small wheel on the spanner is turned. One of the best such things is made in the USA and the brand is Crescent ,,,I think. You can see the fun the support teams have at the ISDE, however, the parties for the non riders seem to sort things out and by day 6 it all makes sense? I think?

In Australia that's what an adjustable spanner is called, a "Shifter"... A shifter in your terms is called a gear lever in ours....

I found a Shifter for you.. It would take a ton of skill to run ISDE with one of these.
You guys must be really talented :)
