New to the husaberg family - update with picture overload

Hi All,

So I just bought myself a 2004 (I think - any idea how to discern between 2004 and, say, 2003?) FS 650e. Completely new to supermotos, I've been riding sportbikes so far (still am!).

The bike is a non-runner at the moment and needs work done to even start.
It's also missing paperwork (but at least managed to verify it's not stolen), so need to sort that too.
On top of that, I can't really work on bikes, so will have to trust (and pay) somebody to fix it up for me :)
And once/if fixed, I'll need to replace the missing bodywork bits and pieces.

Now before you call me an ***** - the bike was dirt cheap, is generally clean, and worst case scenario I can sell the working parts and make the money back.
I'd rather fix it and keep it though.

So, from what I was told it needs a coil pack. Where do I start looking?

Excited like a kid on x-mas day :giggle:

welcome and congrats :)

Well ... what does it look like? that's one way to tell ... got pics?

What ignition system does it have? SEM or Kokusan?

p.s., working on bikes is fun :)

Didn't take pics yet, picking it up this evening hopefully so will post something up!

No idea on the ignition system yet, we'll dig into it soon and check... how do I discern between the two? Where's the best place to get a replacement one?

Feel free to bombard me with advice re what should be looked at!

Re working on bikes: I usually do as much as I can, but with an underground car park there is no way to do bigger jobs, if it means leaving the bike disassembled for the night :/

If it's a 2004 it should have kokusan ignition and keihin carburetor. SEM ignition cover has a black circle on it which kokusan doesn't, which is an easy way to discern the two from eachother.

ah yeah, I had that problem too :/ then I got lucky and have a 4 square meters "garage" in my apartment :)

Ok, got pics.
We brought the bike in, had a look... seems there's going to be a bit more work then we anticipated, but still not bad, at least to get it running.
Checked the VIN number online and it says it's a 2004. The coil however is a SEM - which would mean it's an earlier model. Does that make sense?

Here's some pics crappy iphone pics:

Left side (the seller found the side fairing, just for one side though)

The potential cause for lack of spark, the coil unit:

at least the shock is clean:

does that look like a standard manifold?

probably needs a new wiring loom?

the carb doesn't look too good either

Well, what do you think?
Should I set up a new build thread and try to get it back to beauty? :)

Delorto carb. Sem ignition, looks like the engine is a pre 04. There should be some numbers stamped on the right side of the engine above the stator cover? That should give you a clue on engine size and year. It will need the proper coil to go with the ignition. The coil can be repaired.

Ok, think I have the engine cover (see photo below ).
The numbers don't match anything seen in the thread re pre 2004 engine numbers, hmm... Hope it's not a 123cc engine from 1984 :D

I did a bit (ok, a lot) of reading of the coil/stator threads; so if I understand correctly, if the coil is dead, I can get it either repaired or buy a replacement from HPI in Belgium? Prices more or less the same for both options?
