hi,

there was a 'owners doc' with advice and tips for the older bers, mainlt 2000-2008 but ther was some bits for older bikes the link was on the front page.

dont know if its bak up and running yet since the site had a little **** attack a couple of months ago.

Also unless you have all the parts in the box it may take several winters.

I personally owned a '96 FE501 that I bought new and kept it for 8 years. It was a great machine and, once I got the jetting fine-tuned, very easy to start hot or cold. I see that kli already posted the link to the Husaberg site downloads which is the first thing I would recomend. The owner's manual says to use 5W-50 full-synthetic oil and I used Castrol Syntec in mine for years with no clutch issues. I did try other oil (the dealer recommended 20W-50 semi-synthetic for break in) but it was very hard to start when cold. All I ever did to the motor was to adjust the valves and change the oil/clean the filter screen (no oil filter back then).

Keep us posted. I have a 1994 FE501 that might be good for odd parts. I'll start taking it apart soon.

Thanks everyone. Its supposed to have everything except for possibly the swing arm/ lower engine bolt. The old owner acquired all the parts (new) that was needed but never got around to putting it back together..Maybe by the weekend I can go through everything.Im tryin to make room for it now

I recently picked up a 97 FE501 myself

I love it "when I can get it running".
I have been having hot start issues.

I see from your picture that you have the electric start model. Hopefully you have all the plastic body parts as they are probably un-obtainable. Aftermarket plastic was availible for the '97-'98 models but the rear fender will not fit your sub-frame and the color is wrong. I did put a '98 rear fender on my '96 FE501 but had to buy an aluminum subframe to use it. The bike parts in the picture look almost new.

I believe all plastics are there and in pretty good shape too. the original seat i sperfect except for one 2" tear. I think the bike has low mileage and spent most of its time in a garage..

It looks like you will need a seat cover and the ones for the '97-'99 models will work although the later seats are a couple of inches longer than the '96 and earlier. I had to get a '98 seat to work with the aluminum subframe and '98 fender I installed on my '96 FE501.

Thanks do you know if the 97 seat has the same logo as the 96? will the stripes match up?

The seat cover you now have is an aftermarket one. I can send you a picture of what my '96 FE looked when new if you want. The OEM seat cover for '97 was all black with the Husaberg logo if (I remember right) and the '98 seat cover had some of the neon yellow color on it. The yellow on the '97 and '98 Husabergs plastic was a sort of neon yellow with a bit of green tint to it, unlike the yellow of the '96 and earlier bikes. And the yellow on the '99 models was a bit different yet; more of a duller shade of yellow. BTW, I think I still have the brochures for '96, '98, and '99 model years.

Hi

Its a very good thing that you are building one of these bikes, because most of the people are destroying them to parts, even newer ones.

If you what, send me your mail so I can send you the owners and parts manuals.

Hope to get working on this after Christmas. im going to have to send the cylinder out for plating. There is one very small "spot' on the wall I would also like to get the crank done while I have it apart, just to be safe,. Are crank kits available? Anybody recomend someone to check it out and rebuold if needed?
