Greetings, fairly new owner of an unknown year and model of Husaberg. This bike has been modified and set up for flattrack racing. Unknown engine size. Kickstart has been completely removed and has a remote start added to right side cover. It is a beast and much more than my previous Yamaha TT500. Im wary of cam chain condition, read several posts here. I believe I hear some noise at idle. as well as some aluminum in strainer on drain plug. With your help please direct me how to tell year and CC size for repair. Thank you all. mike in Oklahoma

Welcome!

Interesting project :) Got pics of the bike? Might help identification ...!

The engine cases vary in height depending on stroke. Surely this can be measured but I'm not sure from where to where - smarter people than me will have that info!.

The rev limit can also give an indication if you can determine it. Maybe not exciting in a good way to take an unknown-condition motor and smack it against the rev limiter :)

Maybe not a bad idea to take the head off and actually measure bore and stroke and check the condition of the liner and head etc. while you're at it?

... and there's of course a model / serial number that should be somewhere on the motor that ought to tell us model year and displacement!

Aluminum shavings are usually not a problem, especially on the pre 2001 models, and even more so on the pre 98 models as they did not have cam chain guides. Changing the oil after every ride or so was originally done in part by many to flush out the aluminum shavings as the cam chain sawed at the cylinder. Shiny chrome ball / needle bearing material in the oil would definitely be a reason to be concerned.

Remove the cam chain tensioner and reset it (press down on the release tab and push it all the way in. Reinstall it, then install the spring and nut. Remove it and pull out on shaft and count the clicks until fully extended. If it has 3 or less clicks left I would say replace the cam chain.

If you have an aluminum cam chain sprocket you may want to replace it with a steel one when doing the cam chain amongst a few other things but for now lets see some pics and figure out what this beast is.

Hello Mike,
I just got a Berg for flat track too! Still need to pick the beast.
Would love to see your bike, mine is a bit of DIY flat tracked made in UK, I'm in Rookie class and raced honda crf450 last year.

What's your setup?

Best

Thanks guys for all the input! Will get the "BEAST" out this weekend for some pics. Is there a tutorial on this sight for posting pictures? Mike-#003

Mike,
What's your front suspension like? is it from road bike, like R6?

To post pictures, hit reply and click on the little paperclip icon then choose picture from your computer.

Attached icon and where you can find it.
Hope that helps.

Nice!
Shame pic is so small can't see details.

Flat track season started in uk with few practice sessions, sadly I'm too busy with work to attend.

Good luck!

Hi Bomber,
Where do they advertise the practice sessions?
I couldn't find any details on the DTRA site.

Carl
