Hello All,

I'm new to the forum, so I wanted to introduce myself, my name is Jamie, we live just outside of Salt Lake City UT, I'm a vet rider with many years of racing (more road & supermoto then dirt) & until now, I was a true, die hard KTM orange bleeder, but all of a sudden, I've been bitten by the Berg bug. I happen to be right in the middle of a deal on a 570 FE as I write this. I decided to make the switch because of everything I've been reading and hearing. This last spring I sold my KTM 950 & have been waiting to see what I wanted before taking the plunge on something new, just where I want to ride, what I want the bike to be able to do, size, power etc. Where I'm used to ridding & live, we have the mountains and the desert, so having one bike for both is not always very suitable or fun.. I have had my beloved 300's for the mountains & 640 Adv & 950 SE & Adv along with all kinds of GS's as well for the desert. But because of what has been written & said about the new Berg set up on the 450 & 570, it got me thinking that I just maybe able to get away with just one do it all scooter! As mentioned with the new motor set up and with it sharing parts from KTM (myself being new to the brand, reliability, and not having a dealer in our state), I think I may have found my answer to the one bike problem. I've been hearing that the 570 rides more like a 300 smoker, being very light & flickable while riding, which is great in the mountains but then has the motor for when the snow comes and we head to the desert (The Swell, Moab etc.).

I'm looking to make this 570 sort of a do everything, swiss army style dirt, adventure,SM (for fun, no racing for now) run a round bike for myself, with the economy the way it is, it's going to have to be.

So I'm looking for any advice on to what to get (parts) etc. from the dealer while I'm picking up my new bike, I.E. the best skid guard, should I pick up the 70% subframe tank (which I'm plaining on) over the Safari Tank over the stock tank (a lot of $) then SM parts are coming from a company here in Salt Lake. I'm also looking at getting the turn signal and light switch from Berg and rear fend/tail light, we happen to allowed to street legal bikes here fairly easy, so for the head light I'm going to go with the Trail Tech Extreme (3 lights) but looking for advice on horn (maybe KTM EXC) and turn signals? I found a cool write up on ADVrider on cutting in a set of L.E.D.'S from Zeta (you can order just the LED without the guards, which I don't like the look of) to Cycra hand guards, which looks nice and keeps them for the most part, out of the way, but very see-able for the law enforcement boys.. So advice on or from other folks that have streeted there 450/570FE please, by all means reach out with the do's and don'ts the should have's and should not's, etc...

I'm going to go with the Akrapovic Ti & carbon cap slip on, & the new Ohlins damper with a set of Fasst CO Bars.. I was also looking at a Rukluse clutch (because of what I'm been reading) but I've never ridden anything with an automatic clutch and I'm not so sure I'd like it, or the feel. I hear pro & con's especially on the feel issue. Besides that just the F&I map switch and a few guards new heavy duty Bridgestone tubes and thats basically it.

Is there any thing I should be getting or missing, Thanks for talking the time and I would really be interested in hearing who else maybe from around this way, I have a small but great group of ridders that are always looking for places and people to ride with...

Thank in advance and hopefully it will be official very soon,

Cheers

Welcome mate.

I'm sure some guys riding the new gen bikes will be along soon to give you the low down. I'm old school so don't really know squat about the new ones....

An option you might consider is to wait for the 2011 FE570 which is OEM 50 states street legal, and is equipped with closed chamber forks.

I am in the same boat so to speak..... I have an 09 BMW F800gs that is just to big and heavy for any ADV riding. I have been doing some 1000 mile trips with only 4% of pavement and technical stuff. The BMW is a beast and really is no fun in this kind of environment. I need something street legal and I thought I was set on A Husqvarna 510 but after seeing them at the dealer and talking to others it sounds like it is a race engine that is high revving and vibey. The Husaberg seems to fit the bill well. I guess it comes down to the Husaberg FE570 2011 and a KTM 530 exc as they are both street legal and can be used on ADV riding.

My next big trip will be 1300 miles through some seriously gnarly terrain and single track all self supportive. So I have to be able to carry stuff on the bike (tent, bag, stove, food, clothes) for 8 days.

I also have a 2001 XR400R that is not street legal so I thought I would sell both the XR and my BMW and get the FE570. Any input on this decision or am I crazy? I prefer forest service road riding and some goat trails with little pavement. Also the occassional serious single track thrown in but probably only 20% of my riding right now.

Any insights?

Okay, lots of inmates from Advrider! Somebody call Baldy and tell him inmates are escaping!

Anyway, I don't know about one do everything bike - not sure if there is such a thing. Even with a better seat I decided a long time ago that thumpers, especially naked dirt bikes, were not really suitable for long distances on pavement. But you guys do know what thumpers are like so I'll leave that alone I guess. Plus I shouldn't say much since I am selling my Ducati and only riding my Hussy - but not much on pavement.

The tank. The 70 deg. subframe tank is pretty much the place to start. The Aqualine tanks are a bit more expensive, but also add more fuel. The beauty of it is that it is not an either/or choice - you can start with the subframe tank and then later add one or both Aqualine tanks as you see fit. Altogether you can get up to 8 gallons and you can take one or both of the Aqualine tanks off to go back to almost stock.

Turn signals/handguards - I am going to go with Highway Dirt Bikes:

Nothing else comes close. Plus you get the nifty folding mirrors. Several writeups on Advrider in the THumper forum.

I have not felt the need to mod the exhaust - I like it as quiet as possible and the stock is quiet, but if I did I would go with the FMF MegaBomb.

The Rekluse. I have one and I love it. For the most part there is very little to get used to (IMO). I have the LHRB and I love that too, but don't get the cheap AJP part from Rekluse, spend $100 more and get the nice Magura part from Husaberg (wish I knew about that before I bought mine). Not that the AJP is bad, but the Magura is much better.

Also, consider the Reklock Dynaring instead of the Rekluse. The advantage is that it allows a bump start (where Rekluse does not) and it is adjustable on the fly.

Headlight. The stock headlight sucks donkey balls - useless for anything but daylight and being street legal. From there you can go nowhere but up.

Steering damper. I am happy with the one from MotoSportz. Not as fancy or as adjustable or as pretty as the Scott or the Ohlins, but it works fine for me and it is less expensive.

I like my Tubliss setup instead of HD tubes - that and the Pirelli MT43 work great here in the PNW.

There are two threads on AdvRider/Thumpers you may want to visit - the husaberg thread of awesomeness and my musings on my husaberg.

Rooney & Codemonkey,

Rooney,

I've had almost everything BMW has to offer over the years being a dealer, and couldn't agree more with your comments and predicament, and I too have owned a few EXC's 525 & a 530. I think with the tank from 70% and the Safari application's will give you plenty of range so that shouldn't be a problem. An from what I hear about the new lightness from the new engine it should feel like a 300 smoker so it should be the lightest way to go for single track & have the motor for when your trying to get to the single track!!! Thats why I'm not going with one of my own bikes (being a dealer) and not with another KTM (which I used to be a dealer for & have tons of connections for).

Codemonkey,

I wanted to go with Highway dirt bikes set up, but there set up won't work with, as of yet, a set of Fasst Co bars, so I've been left to make my own set up. An yes, I'm on Advrider as well, since 03-04, that where I came up with the idea of taking the Zeta LED's and putting them into Cycra's set up. I also agree on the H.D. tubes, their on the list.. One things I've been going back and forth over is the adjustable triples, I've been told that you can use a different stem and get adjustment all the way for 19-21 by replacing a $45 part, this instead of $500 part, so we'll see.

I'm really excited and looking forward to finalizing this deal and getting the bike, that is if I can get the dealer to call me back and get it finalized.... Keep your fingers crossed, I've never had such a hard time buying a bike then I have trying to get a new dirt bike this year, I've been working on this for over a month! With the way I've been treated you think that the economy was kicking and that dealers are just stepping over bags of gold, but being a dealer, trust me when I tell you, that's just not the case, dealers just want nice easy deals, when they have to work a little things get all messed up.. Now I know that not all dealers are like this & I'm not implying that they all are, heck I'm one, & I know there are tons of good hardworking people & dealers out there scratching to stay alive, that do a great job for there customers!! But truthfully, this is what has been going on so I thought I'd share, but this is the first time I have ever had an issue like this trying to spend money in a dealership, crazy!

More updates as soon as I get more info, and thanks for all the advice & sharing!!!!

Cheers

Akro Ti can is the way to go being designed on their dynos to gain max performance (power and torque) out of your berg. Another smart mod was by berglsmerg, he replaced the stock headlight bulb with a halogen h4 bulb that was almost a straight swap, very little mods needed and improved night time visibility by one million percent. Im doing mine next week. Happy riding
