Hello All,
I'm new to the forum, so I wanted to introduce myself, my name is Jamie, we live just outside of Salt Lake City UT, I'm a vet rider with many years of racing (more road & supermoto then dirt) & until now, I was a true, die hard KTM orange bleeder, but all of a sudden, I've been bitten by the Berg bug. I happen to be right in the middle of a deal on a 570 FE as I write this. I decided to make the switch because of everything I've been reading and hearing. This last spring I sold my KTM 950 & have been waiting to see what I wanted before taking the plunge on something new, just where I want to ride, what I want the bike to be able to do, size, power etc. Where I'm used to ridding & live, we have the mountains and the desert, so having one bike for both is not always very suitable or fun.. I have had my beloved 300's for the mountains & 640 Adv & 950 SE & Adv along with all kinds of GS's as well for the desert. But because of what has been written & said about the new Berg set up on the 450 & 570, it got me thinking that I just maybe able to get away with just one do it all scooter! As mentioned with the new motor set up and with it sharing parts from KTM (myself being new to the brand, reliability, and not having a dealer in our state), I think I may have found my answer to the one bike problem. I've been hearing that the 570 rides more like a 300 smoker, being very light & flickable while riding, which is great in the mountains but then has the motor for when the snow comes and we head to the desert (The Swell, Moab etc.).
I'm looking to make this 570 sort of a do everything, swiss army style dirt, adventure,SM (for fun, no racing for now) run a round bike for myself, with the economy the way it is, it's going to have to be.
So I'm looking for any advice on to what to get (parts) etc. from the dealer while I'm picking up my new bike, I.E. the best skid guard, should I pick up the 70% subframe tank (which I'm plaining on) over the Safari Tank over the stock tank (a lot of $) then SM parts are coming from a company here in Salt Lake. I'm also looking at getting the turn signal and light switch from Berg and rear fend/tail light, we happen to allowed to street legal bikes here fairly easy, so for the head light I'm going to go with the Trail Tech Extreme (3 lights) but looking for advice on horn (maybe KTM EXC) and turn signals? I found a cool write up on ADVrider on cutting in a set of L.E.D.'S from Zeta (you can order just the LED without the guards, which I don't like the look of) to Cycra hand guards, which looks nice and keeps them for the most part, out of the way, but very see-able for the law enforcement boys.. So advice on or from other folks that have streeted there 450/570FE please, by all means reach out with the do's and don'ts the should have's and should not's, etc...
I'm going to go with the Akrapovic Ti & carbon cap slip on, & the new Ohlins damper with a set of Fasst CO Bars.. I was also looking at a Rukluse clutch (because of what I'm been reading) but I've never ridden anything with an automatic clutch and I'm not so sure I'd like it, or the feel. I hear pro & con's especially on the feel issue. Besides that just the F&I map switch and a few guards new heavy duty Bridgestone tubes and thats basically it.
Is there any thing I should be getting or missing, Thanks for talking the time and I would really be interested in hearing who else maybe from around this way, I have a small but great group of ridders that are always looking for places and people to ride with...
Thank in advance and hopefully it will be official very soon,
Cheers
