Hello !

Im wounder if anyone has mounted a New (04-)starter on a old (02) engine, and i have some questions:

1. Does it start easy ?

2. whats the modyfing ?

MY bike always start easy on kick , but newer on starter.
The starter rotates good with a 11 ah battery, but not fast enough.

and i have doing all the things in the hard start guide.(downloads)

thanks for help.........

Hi ANKAN,
What you may find causing your difficult starting on electric start is not the starter at all. On the LH end of the cam is an auto decompressor that pops open the exhaust valve as it goes over top dead centre on the compression stroke. These were well known for wearing and not opening the exhaust valve the tiny bit to get the bike started. The symptoms are when you crank the bike over on the electric starter, the starter will stall on compression and just make a wirring sound (sprag clutch slip). If this is happening and you need to just touch the manual decompressor, then the problem is almost certainly the auto decompressor. I have mastered the art of just touching the manual decompressor as the engine goes over TDC, but still the bike will always start better if this little centrifugally operated decompressor is not worn.

Also check your exhaust valve gaps. I believe stock is 0.12mm but any gap between 0.12mm and 0.08mm is within spec.

Too much exhaust valve gap can cause the auto-compressor to produce less lift on the exhaust valve possibly rendering the auto-decomp function non-functional.

As an experiment try setting your exhaust valve gap to 0.09mm and see if it helps.

Hribman has done this. Make a journey to his gallery.

Starter

In one of my previous posts, you will find a solution for the starter crank much better the engine. Fit a second battery between the other and the starter relay which make 24V on the starter.
Find my post and there is a diagram. This tip as been given by Husaberg Sweden.
