I found One of the threads that discussed it. Unfortunately, the site linked to for the images no longer holds them, but maybe the thread will give you a little insight nonetheless.
Also, I'm pretty sure Oyk converted his SM to later plastics(here's his gallery. go from that page to the front to see the conversion). Unfortunately, I can't find his thread concerning it, but it was much more indepth than the one I linked to. You may want to shoot him a PM concerning his findings.
