Recently bought a non-running 98 FE400, thought I'd drop in and say Hi.

Got the bike running and it is wonderful after a couple hundred miles

Yep it is a 1998.

Glad to hear someone has an opinion about the late 90s bikes

Seems the late 90s era Hbergs are are all but forgotten.

I wonder if it was due to low production numbers or if they just don't survive or last that long?

Its interesting looking at the shape of the ergos, they look more like my 97 620 SC I always felt more at one on that bike but used to lust after the Bergs. Might have to get one for the pool room......need that button Davo mentioned as well.

I thought it would turn like pig with the steering angle as it is, but am pleasantly surprised. The wp extremes have surprised me, ride all day, no arm pump :bounce3: the seat on the other hand...oowee!

It appears to my eye to have a long wheelbase, it is stable

it's a great bike for florida, not the best for real twisty tech stuff, but tolerable. keep an eye on the cam follower and cam bearings; maintain the top end and you'll do fine.

apples and oranges. when i had my '98 600, i swapped bikes with a guy riding a 620. totally different feel, very topheavy and scary in the fast stuff compared to the berg. problem was, he didn't want to swap back

I 98's were so well balanced, you didn't even need to use the kickstand. 8O

Sanjoh - are you going to fit some of your LED lights to the bike??

No plans on testing the marginal electrical system.
