Hello, current BMW R1200GSA rider from Iowa. Just found a local 1994 Husaberg 501 street legal for sale. Been looking to get a late 80s-96 dual sport for around town. And this 501 just came up.
So im here to get some knowledge, what should I look out for and how accessible are the parts? Looking for something reliable, probably only put a 2-3k miles a year around town, my GSA gets 20k a year so I won't punish this one. Is it a good buy? asking $1700, and it looks clean.

That’s a quite good looking specimen it seems to me. Personally I’d go for it. I don’t have a great feel for pricing in your area but it would be a good price over here and probably at least fair, universally.

These bikes are magic btw

Re. parts: I believe it’s possible and fun to keep these running.

I wouldn't programme it in to regular work and trips at the beginning. it won't have been used for years and they were always a high maintenance low mileage bike. so i can see that with regular use you'll be working on this all the time. in other words; ITSD TOO OLD FOR THAT ****.

taffy

The bike looks to be in very good condition. No early Berg is going to be good for longish trips or for a work commute. For the occasional jaunt around town and some off-road fun I think it would be fun and the price is decent.

It has an aftermarket exhaust, I don't know for sure but it may be an Uptite Racing pipe. Pretty rare.

I would consider it if I already did not have too many others but you can't really have too many Husaberg's now can you?

I'd suggest that they're not a dual sport, even if its street legal, and not a town bike. They were built as a high performance race bike with maintenance needs to match. They can be very reliable, but need regular TLC.

Certainly looks collectable and be fun to play on out in the bush.
