I see that the "user setting tool" is now listed on the international and NA sites for hooking your lap top up to the bike to make changes.

(Rick, you are probably going to be right in the long run, but, I'll need to get a lap top first :) )

I spoke to one of the guys at R&D and he said that the setting tool will, in most cases, be redundant. This is 'cause the EFI is so good at adjusting the mixture by itself. Maybe maybe maybe if you start altering exhaust+head+bigger injectors you'll need it.

I ordered this tool cause i thought I should have it for some reason, availible in feb
09!After spending 60mi on here last week I said to myself why? I felt like a dummy,
this thing is so nice i just want to ride the wheels off her!! Have not found any reason
to change the settings!! I did think i needed to install the map switch so i could see how
much of a change there was from standard 3 through 0. i set mine at # 2 agressive
# 1 beeing soft. I may try the other settings some day but for now i just want the next
weekend to get here to put more miles on this wounderfull machine!

Hi All,

I learned some new things about the 09 bike the other day.

I had dropped my suspension off at Clean Racing to get re sprung and revalved for my weight, ability, and riding conditions. A day later Steve called me up to talk about how I wanted the bike set up, and had some questions for me about the new bike, namely the off set. I had never really thought much about offset before other than reading about the MX boys seemed to want less of it and in unobtanium triple clamps etc.

After doing some research in the parts manuals, I found that from 2004 to 2006 the offset stayed at 22mm's, as well as the rake of 27 degrees. The FS models of those years had a rake of 26.5 degrees and an offset of 17mm's on top, and 16mm's for the bottom clamp.

In 2007 the FE and FS models kept the same configurations as before, except the FE's received and offset change on the top clamp from 22mm's to 21.

As it turns out, the new bike has 19mm offset triple clamps top and bottom, and the frame was also changed from the standard FE rake of 27 degree's to 26.5 degree's.

So what does all this rake and trail business mean? By decreasing the offset one creates more trail, making a given bike, in theory, more stable. And, at the same time, one also puts more weight on the front end as well.

Seems like we have talked a lot about the other changes to the bike, but, I don't remember this one ever being chatted about.

here in Australia the '09 bikes come with 18 - 20 mm adjustable offset triple clamps

The less offset (ie 18mm vs 20mm) the more stable it is supposed to be. Though I didnt notice much difference on my '07-'08 650's when I changed it.

The offset is not adjustable on the 09s even though the top clamp says it is. There was a TSB for HSB dealers on this topic.

The bottom clamp is NOT adjustable.

Ditto

I was told the same thing. Toyed with taking my 07 adjustable triple clamp across. Different setup, no groove for O ring and a few other issues. In short - a no go.

But hey why would you mess with it when it is so good ?

I never tounched the 07 so I didn't see the point.

Does anyone know if the 09 Berg shares the same WP rear shock that the 08/09 KTM 450EXC-R uses?

From the outside the shocks are the same. Stroke length, body length, clevis etc...

Thanks for that!

Dang boy, you got both in the shed get a measuring stick and check it out for yourself !

I read somewhere that the WP rear was developed specifically for this bike.

We'd like to hope so but if the angle, swingarm and many other things are the same I doubt a major difference.

If you are saving 10 min by bunging the other shock (and spring) in to get the bigger spring - don't do it. Spend and extra 15 minutes and take the spring off.

Thanks Bi-Boy, I am not at home now & the EXC-R is shoved in the corner at the moment..

I have the EXC-R WP part numbers now so I'll check that with my FE450 WP part numbers when I get home. Probably just swap the heavier spring out of the EXC-R anyway

Hi LuKe
ktm shock wont fit because of reservoir clock positioning and 02-08 husa upper shock
housing wont fit either because of offset and lenght of reservoir

later VIKING

I was woundering why this need to ship your new suspenders for any inside tweeks?

When there so new that they haven't even been evaluated by even the rider?

Witch outfit doing suspention has an 09 berg?

Spring for your weight for sure but we should all be still learnig our new gift :D

I heard their is a test in australia comparing the bmw with berg and although the bmw is was/ is a big bike the berg turns and flicks well but they hinted it is twitch???? I expected rave reviews, but they may pay a lot for advertising....I am waiting for AMERICAN DIRT BIKE TO TEST THE 09
