The Mexican dealer said the same to me.

Just came back from our club's Tuesday race. I had the opportunity to test drive one of the factory racing bikes. It felt very good. Push button start. Throttle response was instant, steering felt a bit different to my '06, cornering was steadier. Brake pedal was shorter and it felt very accurate. Suspension felt harder and more accurate than mine. According to Valtteri it is standard with his setup. He uses 13/51 sprockets. The bike looked good and felt good. Absolutely a positive experience.

Yes. I shouldn't have done that. Now I have to figure out what to do with my old one..

To be earnest, it felt so much better than my bike that I have to do some serious tune-up with my suspension.

and then I woke up and I was riding my old bike.... It was just a bad dream.

Taff, didn't you ride it when you were sent over? I know a bunch of people have ridden the new bike....you have to be one of these peope Taff.

Word is that it feels like a 250 f, and then what happens when they start shaving weight off the bike?????? :)

Very cool article. It will be very interesting to see the momentum that is gained by Husaberg, with a new bike motivating such a talented, young rider. As well, I don't think we've seen the best of days from Valtteri yet....he may just be finding his mojo. And then there is Bjorne, who is so motivated, even after 14 years at the WEC level, an incredible career. He is almost as fast as JL, 5 seconds slower than JL at a Swedish National and 7 minutes on the rest of the field, so clearly he's on the gas this year as well.

It is going to be an exciting time for the brand, :bounce3:

We had our local annual bike show this last weekend; I was hoping, dreaming it would be but also knowing it would not be there. Nope only a new 2007 and new 2008 on show, there are a few 2008's this side.

Anyway the 2009 KTM where there; very nice. I have had my berg for 4 years now and still love her, but it is time for an upgrade and if all goes as planned I should (read"hope") have the money for a new bike by th end of August 2008.

Now the question is what bike to get? I weigh 72kg (160 for the imperial dudues), so a 200 or 250 2t or even 2504t is well suited for me and the type riding I do(slower, more tech stuff). BUT I am a berg man and I WANT the 2009, so I will be playing this against that over the next couple of months.

The questions are
1.How could you shave weight off the 2009 450?(my 04 has no starter, battery, stand, lights, etc.., now this won't be an option if there is no kickstarter on the 09)
2. and will they have a 380 option or 250?(any rumours here guy's)

First rides on New Berg

Berg Lovers,
I have worked for KTM for the past seven years, first as a Regional Sales Manager (RSM)and then as the manager of the RSMs in the eastern half of the US. For the past several months I have also helped Robbie Jenks with his job as the HB North American RSM. At the KTM dealer meeting I got to ride the 2009 HB for the first time. The next day I asked KTMs president, Jon Erik Burleson, if I could move over to HB full time. He agreed. I'm now the eastern RSM and National Sales Manager. Robbie is the western RSM

Last week Robbie and I got four of the five bikes from the KTM dealer meeting. I have two 450s and he has a 450 and a 570. We rode the bikes for the first time last Friday at the Cumberland Mountain Riding Association property near Winchester, Tennessee. I rode down there again on Monday and yesterday at a local riding area near my home in Middle Tennessee.

Being in the motorcycle industry for 25 years has made me skeptical of the new innovations that hit the industry every few years. The new motor lives up to every claim that has been made of it.I like the bike more every time I ride it. It truly feels as light as a 250 four stroke. It still turns like the older Bergs but feels pounds lighter. The power is very linear with no hits at all. The suspension works extremely well in rocks and roots but is a tad soft for open trails.I rode hard for 1 hour 45 minutes yesterday and was not as tired as I am when I ride my 300XC there. The local place where we ride is really rough with a lot of packed rocky turns. My 300 pushes a lot in these corners and I'm constantly moving back and forth on the seat to make the front bite and then slide back from the acceleration. The Berg front wheels sticks. The four stroke weight helps keep the bike planted in the rough stuff but doesn't work against the rider. I know I'm expected to say good things about the bike since I get a paycheck from KTM/Husaberg but I'm an off road enthusiast first. This bike is just simply awesome! The HB engineers did a great job of making use of the new technology while staying true to the Husaberg roots.

By the way, Robbie plans to race his 450 for the first time this weekend at an enduro in Ohio. I will race mine for the first time next weekend at a SERA enduro in Mississippi.

Also by the way, we expect to ship the first 2009 models to dealers sometime in early November.

I know it does not matter on the east coast but I have heard that the 2009 models will be red sticker only in California. Anyone heard otherwise?

The 2009s will be red sticker only. The bike meets the emissions requirements to be green sticker but does not have the necessary permeation (did I spell that correctly)liner in the gas tank. The tank is pretty complex. The 2010s should be green sticker legal.

2009 husaberg

Hi Clay
thanks for great the report
I have owed four husaberg and I'm thinking about a 2009
My question is ,what is the real seat height, I have read different information from 36.5" to 38.8" I am short and the 38.8" would be tough to deal with! My 2000 and the 2002 were good on seat height.
thanks
gary

RE: 2009 husaberg

Hi Haskell,
I didn't have my tape measure with me but when I sat on one it felt about the same as 250EXCF, but hey, if its to tall have a suspension shop lower it slightly and you'll love it even more!
Best Regards
Sutto
