New Husaberg 501 fe owner

Hello all, I recently purchased my first Husaberg. I picked up a 2002 501 fe. If there is anything special I should know about the bike, please let me know. It idles somewhat high; however the previous owner advised that the higher idle is suggested. I also am not sure exactly how to remove the battery for replacement.

I also have an '02 FE501e. Bought it new in 2003. Awesome motorcycle!

You need to take some time and check out the "owners doc" section here at Husaberg.org. You will find a lot of interesting reading I'm sure. It should also help you with most of your questions that you are sure to have.

I removed my battery from the rear of the engine and made a tray for it to sit underneath the seat. It really cleaned up that area behind the starter. I have since gone to an 8 cell E-Batt which weighs almost nothing and has way more cranking amps than the lead acid battery ever would for the size.

Do you know if the '03 updates were done to the engine?

I don't think any updates have been done. What are the updates or where can I find the info.

Hi - Battery off.

Seat off - 10 sec's.
Put bike on box or centre stand (ie take weight off back wheel) 10 sec's.
Undo and remove top bolt off rear shock 20 sec's.
Undo top & bott nuts on battery cage and remove whole assembly via kick start side.

Whole thing 2 minutes max.

You can do it without undoing the shock but it's a right fiddle.

Trust me done - it loads of times both ways.

Thanks for the info. I'll be changing the battery tomorrow. No more kick starting for a while sounds pretty good.
