I have a 2011 FE390 purchased new 6 weeks ago, the battery has not been holding a charge for more than two weeks (even after kept on trickle charger). Now it won't start at all, nothing, not even a click. It will not even jump start.
I just tried jumpering the solenoid and it worked... Could it be possible that a plate has slipped in the battery causing the solenoid to go bad?

Oh, and no, I have not done anything to cross battery terminals, and fuses are fine, it just won't start and battery will not hold charge. Any suggestions as to what could cause this would be much appreciated, thanks.

Talk to your dealer about replacing it under warranty. I replaced my battery with an 8-cell Shorai battery when the warranty ran out- superior cranking power and shaves about 4 lbs of highly placed weight off the bike.

I agree with Tommy. Have the Shorai now and never looked back. No more trickle charging, ever...

I'm sure that you have checked that battery terminal connections are not loose.

You can jump the starter solenoid and the starter cranks? if you can jump the solenoid and the starter cranks usually the battery is fine but is either the starter solenoid is bad or the signal from you starter button is not telling the solenoid to power the starter.

are you saying you were jump starting it to get it going and now you cant even do that? or if you charged it it would start again? how are you sure the battery keeps going dead? if you can jump the solenoid and crank the engine it and it starts you should be able to have enough battery voltage that the start button will do the same.

Appreciate the replies. @ Bergini, it was not responding at all when trying to jump start it from another vehicle, and yes, it would crank over when jumping (connecting) the two leads on the starter solenoid.
I just had time to go through it more thoroughly and found a wire had come loose from the pigtail connector going into the starter solenoid, fixed the problem. However, I still cannot get battery to last at all. I have 12.70 volts when installed in the bike, will not come close to starting bike, I took it out and have it back on the Battery Tender.
My wife's Raptor 250 came stock with this same battery and is has had no problems since 2008, but Tommy and Noppy have a good point, the Shorai is most likely the way to go with this bike, and from what I've read, the Battery Tender brand by Deltran is OK to use with this PO4 battery, which is good to know.

Guess I should say that I did not check voltage when under load while trying to start, just that it will not start the bike. I would think that anything close to 13 volts would work. Definitely will put another battery in to see how goes.

8) Now that it cranks on its own, it should start from another vehicle, and also sounds like a battery problem too, i just jumped in quick when i saw your concern and it sounded like more then just a battery to me, at least that part was easy.

12.7 volts is perfect voltage but the cranking amps may not be enough, a load test would know for sure it should not drop below 10.6 volts when cranking, a lot of times batterys fail but fail slowly, and still show ok voltage but crap out under load.

another tip on a smaller battery is to just leave the battery tender on it all the time when not being used, unless i am driving mine everyday i can always tell the battery has gotten weaker after a few days or week if not on a tender, and if its winter time cold out its done for by the next day. i have a kickstart backup thought, your battery is more important to you then mine is to me :D
