I'm on the hunt for a dirt bike with a plate and I've been intrigued with Husaberg 70 degree bikes since I saw them. There are a few used ones in my area but I have a few questions before making the jump.

This would be my first Euro bike and the maintenance doesn't scare but I've read that you have to break the cases to do top end work (piston and valves) on the 2009+ fe series bikes. Is this true? If so, that sounds like a major PIA. Can a breakable cam chain be used instead?

case splitting not needed at all for that no! fortunately

first, piston/cyl. replacement and valve adjustment are unusually infrequent for this class of bike - afaik many bikes' valves don't move in 100s of hours; I've only seen cylinder replacement being necessary as a result of unusual bottom end failure

and you only have to remove a valve access cover to adjust valves, very simple ... it's a shim/bucket system - it's essentially 100% the same as 2008+ KTM, at least the 530

the cylinder is a normal piece lying "on top" of the cases, easy to replace ... AFAIK the cases stay together unless you want to split!

the classic pre-2008 bikes did need their cases split to replace the cylinder, but valve adjustment was super easy on them ... it's probably this in-case cylinder sleeve thing that was the root of this

Thanks for the clarification.

I downloaded the service manual for fe450 and 570 and everything looks relatively straight forward. I will end up buying a fe390 service manual if I buy the fe390 but are most things similar in terms of procedure between the 390, 450 and 570?

If you compare the manuals for all three bikes you will find them 99% similar
I have a 390 when I first got it I used a 450 shop manual until I got the 390 manual almost identical
