Hi Folks - Husaberg newb here, but I couldn't pass up a deal on a very clean & well taken care of 1999 FC501. I've had it for a couple of months now and I've been using it for a trail/play bike in the Rockies. Since I've had it I've reworked the suspension, put on Desert ITs, hand guards, and changed the gearing to slow it down for high mountain trails & obstacles. Bottom line, it's a beast and I'd like to keep it that way. On my last oil change, I noticed a few flakes of aluminum in my strainer and from reading on here, became aware that it may be due to a worn timing chain rubbing on the water pump outlet. All well and good as I'm mechanically inclined enough to do the work, but I can't find a source for parts and don't want to tear into the engine to see what's up without at least a proper gasket set.

So my question is, where can I find the proper timing chain/gears and gasket set for this beast? Is there a good source for other parts for the bike if I choose to do other work, i.e., valves, etc.? My Google Fu is strong but I've come up snake eyes every time. Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks!

you can check out taffmeisters also or off road boss.....the used market is pretty rich with parts for these too since nobody wants to work on them anymore :D

I have a big gun exhaust system thats in decent shape for that bike that is for sale too if your interested :D

Thanks, folks. I had seen Taffmeisters on here but was hoping to avoid the cost of international shipping but that may just be the price I have to pay. Thanks for the offer on the pipe, it has a Big Gun on it currently. I'll post a pic of the bike tomorrow. What I'm most interested in now other than the gaskets and timing chain & gears, is finding something to replace the Dellorto. I love running Dellorto's on my air-cooled VW's, but I'm thinking the 501 could use a pumper carb. I'm riding at altitudes from 5,000 to near 13,000 feet and the Dellorto does yeoman's work but it's not great at any altitude and the bike has an off throttle hesitation that's a pita in rocks and tech.

Edit: I should add that I'm in Denver, CO. I've called around to most shops in the area and they act like I have the plague when I tell them I'm looking for parts for the beast.

you make poor choices my friend and people can see that in you... you must have a fool's face on the phone Sir!

the cam chain doesn't wear the water jacket on your model: it does it to the 2001-2003s and to some extent the 2004-2008s.

next, a pumper carb is a disaster, as nobody 'pumps fuel if they have any sense....especially at altitude where no pumping is needed whatsoever...and what do we find: you live in CO!!!

as for postage well your long international career will have taught you that postage from the UK is often cheaper than internal mail within your own bedroom (so to speak) and it would be a wise choice to look at you father nation for leadership because as you know: 'dad was always right!'.

on the basis that you always do the opposite to what you're advised I'd just like to say

I can't help
I have no parts
even if I did they'd cost a lot by pigeon
i don't know anything about keihin carbs but I recommend pumper carbs

there, hopefully that has put you wrong, put you off completely and shall we say you'll call at 5pm my time today? :D :D :D :D

regards

Taffy
