Just about to change my chain, which is at max adjustment.

It has been suggested that I should also change the sprockets even though they look ok.

Do you normally change sprockets as a matter of course when getting a new chain?

Thanks

If you don't replace the sprockets the new chain will wear out prematurely. If you held a new unused sprocket up against your old one you would definitely see a difference.

Thanks - thought that would be the case but didn't want to waste money unless it made sense to!!

Definitely change sprockets with chain. It can be pricing, but you'll always get the longest use out of products when changed out together.

Another tip: find sprockets/ chain you really like and stay with that brand. Note how many hours you get out of that combo, then you'll have a baseline usage number. (You'll now know when next change out is due, and how other combo's compare.)

And FWIW I use at least 3 cs sprockets per chain for a net reduction in wear and cost. Roughly 1/3 the number of teeth up front compared to up back, and tighter bend means they wear the quickest of the the 3 components.
