well my new bike arrived today.

2006 fe 450.

started preping it for a ride tomorrow.

connected the lights, sorted a number plate, spaced out the silencer a bit more, dropped in my fork springs and adjusted the oil levels.

then i noticed what appeared to be play in the swing arm bearings, then it stopped, ?
anyway after a bit of checking i find that the bottom shock bolt has snapped in half !!

the threaded end is there but the socket end has gone so the shock is only connected to the left side of the swingarm.

luckily alex from DCR who delivered the bike is staying locally and riding an event tomorrow so he's going to pick it up, then he's back down next weekend at another event so will bring it back. thats the plan anyway.

will post up some more pics and give a bit of write up when i eventually get some riding done.

ps. am currently watching one of my favourite films.....Flash Gordon. the 80's version for which Queen did the music.

we'll been fiddling my swingarm-less bike.

all the bearings i could find have been regreased.
made up some tidy exhaust spacers from an old renthal handlebar.
tidied up the wiring.
fitted the connector for my battery charger
fitted my steering damper
serviced the forks

then went thru all the little things that i found needed doing when i had my first berg.
one of these is to get the rad louves off .

bloody hell. 15 mins to get the swingarm shock off yet it took me an hour to get the louves off! why the hell don't they just do a 1 piece rad louve that will just clip in and when did they replace the alloy louve bars with these crap rubber & insert ones. what piles of crap.

on a lighter side had a set of devol alloy rad guards for a yamaha lying around. 2 mins of miling and they fitted lovely to replace those damn louves, right up to the point i noticed that they were limiting the steering lock. worked out what i need to do to them but thats a project for another day

on a lighter side my ktm 2st enduro sump plate is going to bolt straight on.

as you can tell i've all sorts of bits lying around my shed.

now it'll overheat on you  those plastic ones are highly calibrated don'cha know.
have fun with that thing when you have two wheels back.

just running the one side to see how it works. as they're only sitting about 5mm off the rad. if it works like this wll look to mount it inboard of the rad mounting rubber to give more protection, if it will fit.

Nice bike! The more I look, the more trick parts I see. Many I cannot identify, probably not common in the colonies. Any chance you could list the non stock items on this bike? I have to wipe the drool off my keyboard now.

well there's the msc steering damper which is or used to be made in Oz. basic but does the job

bud racing triple clamps holding renthal fat bars.

the front axel has the axel puller.

fan and thermostat have been removed.

HOPE REP billet & adonized clutch cover

in the top photo you can see the rear from my No.1 set of wheels which are black talon hubs, black excell rims with stainless spokes.

omero 7.2 litre tank

husaberg force fuel cap

exhaust spacers to space it away from the wheel.

the rad guard which i bodged up and am testing

got a new speedo coming which was included and want to get the g2 ergonomics throttle cam kit for it as well. is it the ktm 4st one or the husky/gasgas 4st one i want?

seriously thinking of having the akrapovic silencer from kieran if it fits and unless someone else wants it.

theres also the water pump guard and i have a ktm 2st enduro case guard which will also fit. just need to weld a little tab onto that as the way it is the cut-out for the 2st exhaust will direct any rock or stick straight into the flywheel cover if i fit it now.

SWEEEEET ride Cypher

I bet youll wish you had that bad boy in the desert the next time you guys come over

Let us have a ride report after you get it sorted.

BTW wtf caused the shock bolt to break?? must have been over tightened I doubt it could have been over stressed from riding enough to break it.

no idea. though be told they had seen 1 or 2, literally, before.

the half a bolt i have does look ever so slightly bent though, can only tell when i put it on a known flat surface.

well got the bits back this morning, fitted them and went for a spin to watch a local h&h.

only down side was the wife had gone off in the car with my boots and helmets so it was stinky old spare helmet and steel toe capped wellies time.

went well. has got some serious go and will quite happily wheelie in first 4 gears on throttle alone, and with me on board thats saying some thing.

forks are a little hard but i haven't altered the clickers from standard and have put my 48 springs in so couple of clicks top and bottom should sort that.

rear slightly soft, but i haven't fitted my spring to match the fronts yet.

obviously with the suspension above i'm not going to comment much in the handling as it was a bit of a chopper. but the front still gripped well and when the back broke traction it did predictably.

slight downs side to having so much go was the fact that this thing was drinking the juice, not good when i only have 7.2 litres, so its going to be pull the bottom of the carb off and see what is in there time.

leccy start wasn't working so started 2 kick from cold after standing for the week and had no problems whilst out and about. turned out i'd blown a fuse, probably when i fitted the connectors for the battery charger. As it did work when it was delivered. now wrking.

came home. fitted a brand new speedo and once i've fiddle the few things mentioned above am ready to roll.

forgot to add that the exhaust spacers wrkd with not a rub mark on the silencer and had several complimentary comments re the rad guard which also seems to be doing the job.
