Have you heard about the new E-Batt lightweight batteries?

I just installed the 8 cell lithium in my 2002 FE501, replacing the old lead acid battery. The new battery offers 300 cranking amps. The motor started on the buttom cold using the stock starter motor too! The batteries are rated to have a life span of 5 - 7 years. Way better than the 1 year I usually get from a standard battery.

Cost was not much more than a standard replacement battery.

The standard 4 cell E-Batt replacement battery for the Husky and KTM is as light as a feather (weighs 12 oz) and has 150 cranking amps. Not sure how big the battery is in the new style Husaberg, so maybe this 4 cell E-Batt will work.

Check them out at http://www.ebattonline.com

I got mine from Dan at MotoXotica. If your in need of a new battery these are definitely worth a look.

i think its the future. the lead/acid /agm type batteries in my experience don't deal well with vibration. and most older bergs will shake a battery.

I'm testing a 5Ah lithium battery from TurnTech myself. I think the owner of the company is a Husaberg owner too. Anyway, the battery is 1.9 pounds, and more than powerful enough for a single cylinder four stroke. I am actually in the process of testing this battery in my 950 Adventure. TurnTech also sells a 2.5Ah battery that is even smaller and lighter.

These batteries are a great way to upgrade starting AND shed some significant pounds too.

I actually started the company to have a second source of funds to buy a "slanty" husaberg. Now all my riding buddies think i should sell more so I can get a 2010, they will make sure the 2009 is taken care of........

can these batteries use chargers such as the optimate 4 charger?

Hey Cypher,
I'll answer since I have one of these batteries now. Yes they can use a battery charger as long as it is rated for less than the battery output.

They hold a charge very well, at least mine has so far. I don't know why anyone would buy a regular lead acid battery anymore, really. These things really work well, and are really light.

Joe t--What are the charging instructions. I received my 5ah, but it did not have any maintenance or charging instructions.
Thanks,
Tod

Been working on the instructions for months, boxes too.......

Basically you can use any lead acid charger as long as you set the amperage to equal to or less than the capacity of the battery. Obviously the lower the amperage is the better it is for the battery. As for maintenance you should not need to do any, and there isn't really any you can do. The bike should keep it charged, and even if the stator fails you should have enough voltage for the bike to be kick or push started. It will just need to go on a charger when you get home. Then it is good for another 100+starts (5Ah on a FI berg) the 2.5Ah give 70-100 on a 450sx.

The most important thing you can do is keep the battery from being discharged to below 6V. This is more of a concern with the DR-Zs as the instrument panel on that bike has a power draw while sitting.

There is no harm in leaving them on a tender either, just really not that necessary unless your going to let it sit for 6+ months at a time. If your going to do that then there are better ways to store the battery (in the fridge).

I know this is going back a bit, some of you out there may find it of interest, especially uk residents. At an enduro at the weekend, a couple of guys I've known for a few years, who have an engineering company, asked me to try one of their new batterys on my 550. This i did, very good it was too. Started the bike untill i got fed up trying. It uses the latest technology, packaged in their own way. The 4 cell item weighs approx 475 grams, the standard battery 2050 grams. It is nearly one third the size of the standard item. For more detailed info contact them at http://www.racingbatteries.co.uk.
