It is finally time to start riding my 2002 FE 501 after a long stretch of laziness.

What is the best choice for a new battery? I prefer one with a little more cranking power than the stocker, but I don't want to hurt any of the electronics with more juice.

Also, is the 2003 rocker upgrade a pretty straightforward change? I only trailride so maybe I can ignore that on my machine?

you're not looking too hard mate.

you'll find a mega comprehensive write up on absolutely everything you'll ever, ever want to know about a battery on forums > electrical >battery sumfink oruva

also write now we have a new thread going all about cam follower bearings. we've had a post today but there's been so much traffic that it was wiped straight off the bottom! go >forums > mechanical > cam follower bearings.

keep it going bud!

Go as big as you can fit and/or are prepared to add weight for the battery. Some blokes have even fitted two to the post 2001s. Doing so can't hurt the charging system or anything else in the 12V electrix.

Check the Yuasa web site http://www.yuasabatteries.com/literature.asp for the 2004 battery spec sheet. I'd recommend the YTZ range.

The spark system is completely independent of the 12V system.
