Does anyone know of a manufacturer that makes an exhaust for a 2000 Fe 501 e? sure there is FMF and Akrapovic, but they only make exhausts for the newer models, which I don't believe will work on the older bikes. I don't need a full exhaust system, just a slip-on muffler would do the job.
Anything helps, thanks to all.

Pay though nose and get a custom exhaust made could be your last resort. I'm not trying to be an A hole!

Alexander, you wouldn't need to have the entire exhaust made. Look on ebay, or in the back of a local shop, for a muffler that is close to what you need. Then look for someone who can bend pipe and weld up what you need - a good muffler shop, or a custom car shop that works with hot rods and kit cars can do the work that you need, and they should have the stainless steel tube that you need. They will probably want the entire bike so that they can fit things up.

Explain exactly what you want to the muffler shop, and also give them a print-out, with your requirements. (One of your requirements should be that the pipe fits closed to the frame, but not so close that it contacts the frame. Another would be that it doesn't hit the rear tire when the suspension compresses.) A chain-store muffler shop probably isn't going to want to deal with it, but a small, privately owned shop might enjoy the challenge.

Best wishes. Let me know how the build goes!

I appreciate the advice. The headers themselves are fine, all I'm really looking for is a slip-on style muffler, not the full exhaust. The reason I was looking for one specifically designed for my bike was that often times they are built and tested by the manufacturer to make sure they improve the performance of the bike (HP/Torque) as I'm sure you know. I just don't want to risk the performance of my bike just to make it louder.
Thanks

I have a Doma back box. It was on a 04 501. I managed to get the same on Ebay second hand a few years back. But they rarely appear for sale.

I think you are going about this all the wrong way.

the headers are too small on that generation for the power that it could produce. they are the restriction. they aren't if all you want is a bit of torque and ride MX but anything else and they are too small and too long. one is bad but the two are a no-no.

why not try a set of 501/550 headers or 650 headers from the later bikes and see if the centre section won't work as well? the headers should be a straight fit.

the tail pipe will look after itself.

the ports and valve sizes are the weakness on that generation. they were made for short shifting MX riding and very good they were too!

A member put an FMF titanium 4 from a KTM on his '08 years ago. I saw one at the local dealer back then, it was from a mid 2000's 525 I was told. They had rubber mounted clamps that could fit different mounting locations.
