I just moved from Utah to MN and the altitude dropped from approx 500 ft to sea level. I have a 1996 FC400 but do not have an original manual. Is the 1999 work shop manual similar? The bike has a Delorto VHSB flat slide carb with a 162 MJ, 50 PJ, K-35 needle on the 2nd from top position. The bike does not start well or run well coming from a high altitude to a low altitude. Any suggestions on jetting?

there are chap round slide dell ortos everywhere. keihins are a lot more expensive but a better carb.

the internals can wear on the dell ortos so if you get one you will need to change the needle and atomizer for piece of mind.

if you download the 'owners doc' you will find dozens of tips and hyperlinks to threads on topics. also there are two set-ups that are "hot" for that carb there.

click on the hyperlink at the base of my post here.

Thanks for the info. Your Manual info seems to be for a 2002 model. Are the settings the same?

MY bike is a 400 but the other two were 501's. yes, they will be good for the 400. not perfect but you're not doing GPs either so...

good luck

Call Peter at HMS 505-870-4807 and get a good used 38 round slide from a 98 FC400. Flat slide is very sensitive to altitude.
