hello folks,

had any one had any nausea symptoms while racing in tight tracks?
last time, it was a fairly tight track and after 10 rounds i was out to the pit lane trying to keep my food inside the stomach :D

i am planing on using dramamine pills.
some say that i will get used to it but i think not.

i know that dramamine makes you bit sleapy but as long i dont throw up thats good for me.

i would interested in some extra opinions if any..

thanks in advance

Hi there Oyk,

At my snail's pace, I don't have a problem on the bike, but I do have a problem with motion sickness when I'm not the operator of a vehicle.

Dramamine caused me problems because of it's sedative effect. I ended up using Bromine, which keeps my nausea at bay and doesn't cause as much sleepiness. There's a little bit of an effect there for me, but it's minimal.

Something to try and hope it helps.

thanks,
json

Oyk,
I'm with Schwim, in that the bike doesn't give me problems, but I cannot read while riding in a car. I also get "sea sick" personally I like the chewable Dramamine. If you've eaten before riding chew one at least 20 min. before going out on the track. The only time I get sleepy on it is riding in the car, out fishing on the ocean no problem (too busy hauling in fish !) If you are at the track all day you might chew another one an hour or two in. Out on the boat i chew one every two hours. Bromine ? i thought that you put that in the hot tub after you're in there with the "dirty girls" Schwim.

chewing a bit of ginger root kills motion sickness and wakes you up

real proper dirty organic stuff right out of the ground is the best.

tablets and ginger flavoured sweets aren't very good.

Now that I think back on it, the tablets were awfully large.

HI Oyk,

I too get motion sickness rather easily, like Schwim if I'm not the one driving a car, or out on the Ocean. I don't care if the fishing is great I still get sick.

Before I went on this "adventure" cruise a few years back to Panama and Costa Rica, I got some motion sickness patches, you just put one behind one ear about 12 hours ahead of time. They worked really good for me. The only side effect that I have found is that they give you cotton mouth, sometimes.

Do you ever have any other times that you get this feeling? Like when you get up out of bed or anything? If that's true you could have a touch of vertigo. Did this just start happening?

thank you all for your answers,

1) bromine is in my shopping list
2) bushmechanic maybe you can give me some tips on how to grow ginger at my garden maybe??
3) patches are something i may try
4) since a little child i use to have nausea on boats or cars, even now i also cant read in a car, or if the road is twisty and i am not the driver i get sick very easily.

but never had this problem , either in motocross or enduro.
only this time in this particuarly tight kart track, where in some turns really i think that if i where on foot i could go faster!

i noticed that nobody said that i might get used to it , also this was my thought from the beggining.

my racing mate has no problem at all, while i was trying not to throw up
the ****** was drinking beers ( it was 11 am).

we have still 2 races , one is in SPARTA and one in ATHENS and the one is tighter from the other, i only hope some of the advices you gave me will work.

best regards, pavlos

Go with Bushies suggestion, it works well, but for some, it takes a bit to get used to munching on a piece of raw ginger root, it gets a bit bitey, but I dont mind it personally.

there is also a ginger powder tablet by a herbalist company called Blackmores, they make travelcalm ginger, which is the same as pure ginger root, but takes the taste and heat out of the equation.

also, maybe look at magnets or pressure point products, apparently there is a pressure point on your ear (somewhere near the lobe) and your wrist (near your corotted artery pulse) which affects your motion sickness.

Azza.

try some from the shop first

also don't know how you refresh the ginger during a race

put it in a blender and make some ginger tea out of it and put it in the camel pack?

the effect isalmost instantaneous. first time i used it was below deck workin in confined space small boat big seas and nasty fumes, i had to fix a siezed deisel injector, I didn't beleive it would work but phark me its worth a try.

apparently its something to do with how the oxygen is dissolved in the blood.

Yes Oyk,

You may very well get used to it if you ride that track that makes you want to hurl enough.

I used to fly quite a bit, and when I took some aerobatic lessons, the first time I was hoping to keep from puking until I got out of the plane. The second time wasn't as bad, and by the fifth lesson it barely bothered me.

From the way Bushie is carrying on, I'd sure give the ginger tea thing a try since the effect is so quick. And, I remember as a child, my Mom giving me Ginger Ale when I was feeling sick to my stomach.
