I've owned 3 differnet berg's over the years with no local dealer. Online part sourcing was getting tiring so I was very excited to hear about a local Berg dealership starting up. http://www.internationalmotorsports.com
I decided 2 weeks ago to buy my 4th berg, the first I've bought from a local dealer. I picked up a demo 09 FE450 with 1.7 hrs on the clock. It was in displayed in a lineup of 10-15 bikes, very tightly packed and I never gave it a good once over (foolishly). After I paid for the bike and it was brought outside the store for me to load I notice the foot on the kickstand is broken off! I asked the salesman how he could sell me a bike with a broken kickstand he says "I thought you noticed it". Well, buyer beware, I should have done my due diligence. But still, I don't treat my customers this way. ( A buddy of mine bought a demo 09 FE570 and it had zero flaws, I assumed they all had the once over done before being sold). The salesman says "don't worry I can get you a new kickstand for $85". Later I discover the foot of the kickstand can be replaced seperately, to the tune of $5.00. So now I'm feeling like this guy is trying to gouge me too! The salesman also says to me "the bike has fresh oil, its ready to go". Once I got the bike home, I dumped the oil straight away anyways because at this point I'm suspisous. Good thing cause it was black. Then I pull the main screen out and it's coated with ****.

Mabey I'm being petty here, but when I drop good money on a bike I expect decent service. I don't take to lying very well, and mabey the salesman was somehow mis-informed, but man you better make sure you know what your talking about before opening your yap. I am left with a bad taste in my mouth and figure I better go back to dealing with my berg's myself, I have yet to find a good dealer nearby. My previous 2 bikes were bought in-crate from Scott at Ross Rocher and he has always been a pleasure to deal with in comparison.

I'm sure other people might have better experiences (or mabey worse), but hopefully when a new buyer puts together a handful of other's opinions they can avoid pitfalls and make informed choices about where to spend their money.

Aaron

ps- The parts guy Mike was awesome to deal with.

Next time, come down to Tasky's in Everett, WA - assuming you can take a bike home from the USA.

It also appears that your pick up screen is broken as well!

I would say that your oil dump was the first oil drain the bike had. They come with "break in oil" and you are supposed to change it after one hour of easy use. I had quite a bit of stuff on my screen the first time I changed mine, but, not as bad as yours.

Be sure and check the scavenging screen up on the head too.

I bet the next oil change will be pretty clean. Did it come with a warranty? If it did, ride the crap out of it during the next month to make sure nothing goes wrong!!!

Sorry to hear about the negative experience, hopefully that's as bad as it gets.

Dale

I think you are right on Dale, the oil has never been changed and all the gunk is from the factory fill. Unfortunately the bike did not come with any warranty, but at first glance that didn't bother me because all of my bergs have been 100% reliable. I just hope I'm not in for any more "suprises" that the dealer forgot to mention or lied about.

FYI

Kenco in Sooke is a dealer & Duncan Motorsports in Duncan just became a dealer

I have a riding buddy who just bought a Husky WR250 from them. He said they were fantastic to deal with. I don't think i've ever heard a negative about Tasky's on any internet forum.

Hi Guys,

I don't mean to be negative here but IMHO that is way too much metal, I don't believe it could have been left in the engine at assembly so it has probably come from something wearing.
I have have had nowhere near that amount of metal in the 10 oil changes I have now done.
Hopefully whatever it was has settled down and your next oil change will be clean.
I would be sceptical about the 1.7hrs too.
I hope it all works out for you.

Steve

Can't see that qty of metal relating to 1.7 hours of use! Are you sure this is the case... if so, sommat MUST have broken/fractured internally, or the 1.7 hours must have been completed at Paris-Dakar!

Keep us posted and good luck.

Shame about the dealer... what's this world coming to, eh?

generally when a salesman is moving his mouth he is lying...i have head several 570 ginding metal in the iol during break in so i wouldn't get to worried just yet but if it doesn't diminish with future oil changes you may have a problem...good luck with it. rm
