my bike wont start and if it even does it spits and sputters and then quits please someone help me

Erm Think We Need More Info Than This  What Bike? Year? Carb? Where You Are? This Will Help Point Us In The Right Direction.

Have You Checked The Valves? The Conition Of The Stator-I.E Is It Damp/Dirty? Look Inside The Airbox,Is There A Puddle Of Oil? If There Is You Need To Clean The Whole Carb? Whats The Rubber Boots Like? Any Splits? How Old Is the Plug? What Plug You Got Fitted? Have You Fitted A New Plug Cap Lately?

all that stuff is fine the motorcycle only has twenty hours on it and we purchased it new

we had trouble with it starting but we took it back to the dealer and he said he adjusted the valves then it started good

then it started to start poorly again returned it to dealer which he said he cleaned the carb on it then it started fair

i changed the spark plug which was no help then we attempted to adjust the carburetor it helped a little

once the bike starts it runs well sometimes it tends to stall

we use 20w50 amsoil motorcycle oil the dealer suggested to change the weight to 10w40 the closest dealers are in New Jersey

we use vp110 racing fuel mixed with 93 octane regular unleaded

battery seams to drain down fast when cranking

Thats Quite Thick Oil But Cant See It Causing Too Many Problems,Will Slow Down The Starter. Go Through The Carb And
Clean Every Jet And Passage To Make Sure Everythings Nice And Clean.
Have A Look In The Doc Its <----- Just Under The Galery.
How Was The Plug? Have A Look At The Stator? Try Screwing The Idle Speed Screw Up And Down To See If It Has Any Affect.
What Did You Do The last Time You Rode It?
The Starter Is Not Really man Enough To Start When Cold.
Really Look At The Sock To See If Any Oil has Founds Its Way Into the Engine.
Check The Decompression Stuff To.

what sock are you talking about also the idle speed screew i found had little effect on the starting status of the bike

The "sock" is the air filter and connection i.e. rubber boot,

were you there when the bike started good? if you were, and all he did was adjust the valves, make sure he tightened the nuts back up and they are not out of adjustment again. Stalling, running poorly, sounds like either fuel or spark. have you looked at the stator? does it look in good condition or is there corrosion and rust on it. new bike sitting since late 2002-early 2003, may have some on it. Pull the plug and check for consistent spark. the spark may seem a bit weak, so dim the lights a bit. print out a copy of the hard start guide located in the downloads section and get your volt/ohm meter out to check to make sure you have the juice.

pull that carb off and clean it out good. All the passage ways! if there ever was fuel in there and it sat for a while you may have some trouble starting and running because the old fuel has varnished.

don't use the button to start the bike when cold, it is a re-starter only on that bike, use the kick until you are comfortable with the bike and are sure about the button start/. some work great, most do not when cold.

The Rubber Boot/Sock The Connects The Carb To The Back Bone. Only Reason I Said About The Idle Speed Is Once I Had Changed The Plug Cap On My '04 It Would Spit And Cough When I Kicked It,Decided To Wind Out The Screw To Almost Nothing The Kicked It. She Ran For All Of 3 Seconds.
About 4 Go's Adjusting the Screw 2 Turns At A Time Before It Ran Good.
How Old Is The Fuel?? The Higher The Octane The More Thingy It Is...Like Brake Fluid,It Atracts Moisture.
Have You Checked The Plug Spark? Worth Checking At Least.
How Does The Cap Fit The Plug? Tight Or Is There Some Movement?
Right I'm Off To Bed Now As Its 12.30 And I'm Really Tired.

Did this bike always have a Mikuni carb,it was never OEM as far as I know.Which Mikuni do you have.
I do not think VP racing fuel is going to help starting, this may be your problem...just use unleaded 91 octane or better...race fuel burns too slow .
Switch to a lighter engine oil if you are in a area of below 50f today.
Check your valve clearance.
When was the last time it was running/used on a ride?

I run Amsoil 20w50 in my '03 400. You could stick with it. It's 26 here in Michigan and I just fired the bike up no problems...

I am also a fan of slightly heavier oil weights as well Kzoo, but the lighter wts should help starting as this is his issue. 26f Brrrrrrrr :)

Tell me about it 26 degF stinks as it was 80F last weekend... :( My point was that I don't think the oil weight is the key as I'm running the same 20w50 and it isn't hindering my bike firing up at 26F.

where can i find a timing kit for my bike

? A motion pro feeler guage is available from your local dealer(any brand).
The ign timing is set at the factory when new,it is possible to change it or check it,but since your bike ran before with this timing it is unlikly to be the problem. There is no such "timing kit",a guide to checking setting your ign timing is in the hard start quide I believe.

i just saw a motion pro timing kit and it had an adaptor but it didnt say what size the adaptor was because i need a 10mm
