Can anyone help. I have an 03 FE400e, it runs (after lots of kicking) but has no electrics!
No horn, lights, starter motor totally dead... but it runs!
Any ideas? I've cleaned every connector I can find, the battery is fully charged, and when I put a meter on the horn etc it shows power, but nothing works?

Heard a rumour it may be the regulator/rectifier pack that's mounted on the rear shock protector. If it has blown would it still run?

Thank you for your time
Ian

Hi Ian,

The ignition side is on a completely different circuit to the charging side this is why it still runs.
If you have a test meter test the voltage at the battery when the engine is running above idle the voltage should read 14vdc. if no rise possible reg rec.
Regarding nothing working can't really say with fully charged battery horn and brake light should work.
If you go to the Husaberg web site you can down load the wiring diagram for your model and year.

Regards

Sparks.

RE: Re: My bike is dead but not dead!!

ian

it's not unusual for a horn not to work or indeed the brake lights to go wrong for one reason for another. do you have a rear light or a headlight? i presume not.

i had no electrics working two moths ago but dilligently went through everything and now the elctrics all work.

are you ok for a wiring diagram? you need the owners manual which is available in the downloads section.

RE: Re: My bike is dead but not dead!!

I had the same problem, mine was the fuse. After much testing I descovoured that it was blowing when the motor was held at high rpm for long periods - like the main straight at the local moto park.

my solution was to carry a pack of fuses with me.

Right chaps, I found the problem.
It's the ignition barrel!
If I bypass it everything works fine. On stripping the barrel I found the contacts inside caked in grease and dirt, one of them has corroded totally so a new barrel is needed.
Thanks for all your help guys

Ian

02 FE 501 / no indicators.

Horn wont work & it's driving me mad. Everything else is fine (engine running as battery shagged). I don't care about the battery or starter as since the Taffy cresent mods & auto decomp dutch clog etc, it starts of the kick easier than my boys KX65.

Anyway, only need the horn for the MOT. Thinking I might put a noddy squeeze horn on. Is this still legal in UK.

Would rather fix horn though as it niggles me.

1/ Horn OK when wired direct to remote 12v battery.
2/ All lights & break lights work.
3/ Kill switch on same set as horn switch works.
4/ Ignition swich works.

So - red & white circuit from rectifier to ignition switch & horn all checks out as no resistance - so assume wire is good.

Orange wire from ignition module to ignition switch & horn switch all checks out fine.

Orange wire from ignition module to black wire at horn (via orange in switch) reads 0 res once horn switch pressed - so that circuits ok I guess.

So - power obviously not getting through although all wires seem to check out and everything else works ...why. Help please !!!

most cheap bike horns don't work well on ac from the alternator. hook it to a dc lead from the battery. even if the batt is no good (but not dead), the power from the reg/ rect will provide dc when the engine's running.
(AND YOU SHOULD HAVE STARTED A NEW THREAD.. NOT JUMPED ON ONE THAT'S GOING ON 4 YEARS OLD)

Hi Ned,

Cheers for the comments - how do you patch into the DC circuit - I'll give it a go tomorrow if I don't go MX'ing with Taffy.

Re the thread - I was going to start a new, but previous moderators have always stated that old threads should be added to rather than creating new as the proceeding information can be of use & interest and helps with thew search facility.

It actually took me some time & effort to select this thread - would have been much easier to create new..doh..comments on a postcard please.

But cheers again anyway.

iirc, it will be a red/ white wire.
... and your thread had nothing to do with a dead bike.
don't believe all those ****** mods have to say. :bounce:

Ned are you going even further off thread and involving Lambretta riding ****** Mods from Quadrophenia?

Did their horns not work either?

See Ned - Red & white is already being used on the horn and this does come back to the battery via the key switch as in the Husa wiring diagram.......you know what.......as my starter switch & starter motor don't even click (doesn't bother me as bike starts fine).....and as you have pointed me in the direction of DC.....ummm whic in turn has made me look to the battery on the wiring diagram....and as this thread which seemed closest to my problem when I did the initial search seems to point to a blown fuse on the battery circuit....I reckon the main fuse off the battery has gone. Sounds feasible to me - how about you.

It would be ironic if thes thread did solve my query after all...lol..I'll check it out tomorrow.

I think that the horn is the only item meant to work with the ignition off so the live should be permanantly live?

it's easy to get all the wires on the the ignition barrel wrong.

all you need to do is find a live wire and the horn will earth itself.
