Hi, I'm considering performing a muffler mod on my Fe550e to open her up a little.
I'm just wondering if anyone has performed any mods and whether or not they deem them as necesaery and if so, what they have done.

P.S. my bike is otherwise stock.

Thanks.
Mario.

You can probably just purchase the FC end cap and that would be more or less straight through but still have the spark arrestor in place.

It should help as the quieter tip is about half the diameter of the rest of the silencer.

But to answer your question, I have not deemed it necessary. Seems like it has plenty of power.

Although I would like to try it uncorked, but, then I might end up a bit bummed.

I installed an FC End cap along with an FC inner core and removed the spark arrester. My bike is a 03 FE501E. Muffler is now exactly like an FC muffler. Can get the end cap from your dealer. Parts list shows the packing, but not the inner perforated core, but I suspect the inner perforated core may come with the packing? Can any one verify this?
I took the guts out of a KTM MX muffler that was replaced with an aftermarket unit. KTM mufflers are the same as the Bergs.

I put a rhino pipe on my 04 501 it made the bike more responsive but when riding in the slop up hill it would wheel spin a lot a put the standard pipe back on for the winter a got a lot more traction.

Mine has a modded case & fabricated end cap (see my galery). Can't comment how it has affetcted performance but it sure pulls well - the perforated tube is 42+mm straight through. I wasn't sure about having the spout pointing downwards but it is excellent at keeping the noise from your head and the exhaust stink from your clothes, a big advantage if used on the road.

less sound=more ground

Yes! nsman,

Out where I ride and race the noise reg's are being enforced. That's 96db for riding on public land. That's down from the previous 101db sound limit. That's an almost 4 fold decrease in noise.

The motocrossers used to think all these land use and noise issues weren't going to affect them. Unfortunately for them, they found out, and are finding out otherwise.

I do find it ironic that all these Harelys ride around with these ridiculous straight pipes, and have got to be about 110 or 115db, and there doesn't seem to be an outcry for them to be quieter.
