First mention I heard of a MX version. I don't doubt the design and chassis could be adapted, but they better find a motocross-suitable engine. Thhe SOHC KTM engine that is used in the Husaberg is nice (I have ridden the '08 KTM), but it won't do for MX, at least on the highest levels of competition.

Maybe they are going to use KTM's MX 450 engine and arrange it in a similar fashion?

john I THANK YOU!!

just what i thought. who is this Jocke guy anyway!!!

my thoughts on this clutch problem?

well i think that it's the first time a clutch has ever run 15 feet above the oil "bath". never thought the oil helped much? well you know now!

i thought i'd leave it a few days to see if any of you slackers got it....

Have we got any real details on the failure? Hell, he could have knocked off the clutch master for all I know.

There didnt appear to be too great a difference between the '07 EXC-F and SX-F engines (excepting the obvious SOHC and DOHC designs respectively), it probably wouldnt be a big ask to adapt the 70o '09 engine to run a DOHC head.

Personally I dont think there is a big difference between SOHC and DOHC performance, but I have made my assessment upon riding the DOHC KTM SX-F 450 against the SOHC 550 FE Berg, and couldnt split the engine s traits, DOHC doesent feel as free revving in my book.

Spoke to David Larsson at the Expo this weekend and he confirmed delivery in december och both 450 and 570 bikes. I apparently wasn't the only one having one on order, in fact the production will probably not cover the demand, but I will at least be one of the first to get my hands on one.

He also revealed that there will be no supermoto bikes built by Husaberg, only enduro bikes. Though it will be homologated with 17" wheels also which will be sold as a kit. Demand for SM has dropped from a 50% production run to 25% this last year, so they will concentrate on enduro. Looks like the death of the bigbore SM bruisers.

/David

David Larsson also told us that production is now down to 1500 bikes in 08 compared to ~4000 in 04/05. So if you want a 650 (or any of the supermoto bikes) then get them while they last...

Dry clutch?

IMG_1989.jpg

How many feet below the clutch can the oil level be?
Does it not pump oil to the clutch and to the gear box?

Yeah, I agree, it's yet another toss off comment !

The height of the clutch from the bottom of the crankase is not any substantial different to the current 450 R motor or RFS motors etc, look at the photo !

Why is there talk of the clutch being positioned high in the motor?

The pic's clearly show it at the same or even lower to me no?

What seems different is were the mains are & big end brng,I think that is located up there

a bit so that is a good reason they have put two oil pumps inside her. Also this design

may not have to have the reed system for oil removal from crank area? I feel very good

about the knowledge of the staff who have made this unique design & are about to

bring it to production. This sure looks like the kind of change that can really make us all

very proud we have one in the garage.

what i'm saying boss is that all traditional engines have relied on oil sitting in the bottom of the RHS cover, that that oil has been there to cool everything and lubricate it.

how much of either though?

do you know?

no, neither do i?

so when oil isn't there anymore in THIS WAY it means it has to be lubricated/cooled in another...... makes sense right?

so with the oil 'pool' way, way, way below the clutch now we have to have a new way of cooling/lubricating the clutch.

question is.....how?

Hey taffy i am not sure i'm looking at the same photo's you are, nevertheless your a

very keen guy with lots of experience & i respect your knowlage on & off the bike

after getting the privllage of meeting you at the force ride in moab last year!!

But the photos i have looked at show the cluth to be at the lowest part of the engine.

So to me you see the oil should be there in an amount to be more than adiquate.with

gravity also helping with this issue, heat also rises & with everything being stacked above

i do not see were this is not a better idea to place a cluch, please help me understand this further. Thank you in advance for your insite!

Thank you Taffy or anyone who

well boss it is possibly my mistake but i took the clutch to be high on the left of the engine. if i'm wrong then i eat humble pie!

when's your little nipper due mate?

Clutch

I think I see what Taffy is talking about.
If you go to the advrider website, link is in first post in this thread, half way down the page is a picture of the whole motorcycle and right above the countershaft sprocket is something that looks like a clutch cover. I also hope that is not the clutch, although it would be easy to change I think. Even with a dedicated pump.....I don't know. Unless it has a cast in trough to hold oil, but even then it would throw oil out very quickly I would think.
The hydraulic line for the clutch goes into the case right in front of the countershaft.
The picture on Husaberg's website shows the clutch on the left side.

http://www.adbmag.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=86303

Half way down that page is a picture of the KTM and Husaberg motors side by side.
The KTM has a similar cover with the oil fill hole and wires running into it.
